My Defrocked California Special
Surprising none of the "purists" or "enthusiasts" hit on the fact that Ford should never have offered the California Special package on a convertible in the first place. Defeats the whole purpose of bringing back the package.
That being said, a mustang is great car regardless of what stripes are on it. Without owners doing all manner of modifications to thier cars, the market wouldn't be there for aftermarket parts and owning one would be far less fun...ok maybe just slightly less fun. Even if you dont like it, at least it isn't antother frickin Elenore clone....

Ummm, yeah you did basically say the Boss was an appearance package and some suspension changes. So why claim that you didn't say it.
And if you ask if I ever owned a Boss the answer is yes... 2012 Yellow Blaze #903.
Now with the 2013 you can get closer to owning the performance of a Boss 302 from the factory without owning a real Boss... but I still wouldn't put Boss 302 decals on it.... Track Pack decals maybe.. but not Boss 302

I am surprised at the comments on here. Life is short, enjoy it. I am not sure why people ask for opinions on something they have done to the car, and are happy with. There will always be negative comments, no matter what you have done, so ignore all comments, and be happy!
We are all individuals, and that is great, otherwise all of the cars would look the same. Keep smiling'

They should not have put it on a fastback coupe either... The original California Specials were only 2-door notched roof hardtops that used select Shelby parts to dress it up.

True, true. The new mustangs would be considered fastbacks, but at least it's a coupe. For me I like the fact that current design decisions and models are based on the heritage of the classic mustangs. I'm a little wary of the "European" design cues rumored to be going into the '15. Mustangs were built to beat the European cars not join them.
I lean towards the purist side, but as long as its American I'm good with it.
If you look at the '11 numbers, regardless of how you order it, the CS optioned cars were a small group, not much more than the '68 production numbers. I'm guessing that '12 will be similar. IMO this makes the car deserving of a special model category, of course I'm bias...

Since we're all sharing our opinions, here's mine. I like C Stripes. You could get them on a variety of Mustangs in the late sixties. However, only the Boss 302's say Boss 302 on them, and I don't think it's appropriate to use C Stripes with the Boss 302 lettering on any car that isn't a legitimate Boss 302.
Non-logo'd C Stripes would look great on our S197's. I would encourage the OP to remove the Boss 302 stripes and replace them with non-logo'd C Stripes.

all you jokers with the boss intake.. Any one grinding off the letters or are you leaving it when opening the hood for the "wow factor"?
same goes for Shelby rear spoilers, Saleen grills, CS Fascia, etc....
It aint a California Special so how dare you put a CS fascia on.....
When you look at it this way, you nay sayers should realize how silly your argument is (but you wont, lol)

those are simple parts being installed. Those can be done in a way that would look poser ish.. but its not putting a large label on the side on the car labeling it. Most people installing those parts are gaining hp and in some cases adding basic styling cues. How much hp does a boss 302 stripe pack add?

If you think we're being unreasonable about your Boss 302 stripes, just wait til you see what happens if someone slaps snake emblems to anything other than an SVT Cobra or a Shelby.

I'm a nay sayer, but I haven't added anything to my GT to pretend I have a limited edition car when I really have just a regular old GT.

0) I have a GT500 spoiler (from 3D Carbon) because I like that spoiler more than any of the rest of the spoilers available. It looks just like the GT-500 spoiler, right down to the Gurney flap).
1) I have 2010 GT500-like wheels (from American Muscle), not because they're "GT500-like", but because I prefer them over the other wheels available and they're **** cheap at $139 each.
2) I have a Cervini Type-4 hood that looks kinda like a KR hood, which is exactly why I chose the hood.
3) I have a white car with Guardsman Blue Le Mans and rocker stripes because it's a classic look. There is not "GT-xxx" text in the rocker stripes. The blue over white color scheme is the US international racing colors, and was used by more than just GT-350 (Corvettes, Sunbeams, Cunninghams, Firebirds, Camaros, Falcons, etc), so I don't see this as exclusive to Shelby.
4) I have the new style Powered By Ford fender badges on the car. I was originally gonna go with the old style ones, but I got these for just $48 (1/3 of the price everyone else seems to sell them for). Despite the fact that you only saw them on the 07-09 Shelby's (and Factory Five Cobra kit cars), I don't consider them to be sole property of Shelby because it's just an update on the original design of the same badge, and the car is indeed "powered by Ford".
I didn't add any other Shelby-like parts to the car, and no Shelby-specific badges, yet Shelby owners continue to incorrectly identify the car as a Shelby (and they really should know better), or treat me as if I'm trying to create a Shelby clone. So to hell with everyone that objects to anyone else doing something similar, whether it be a Shelby, Boss, or whatever.
To the OP - you need to go further. The car needs more than just side stripes to look like a Boss. It needs lowering, the boss grille, fascia, and splitter, and the pony faux gas cap. Since it's a convertible, I'd also consider putting something from this web page in it:
