Lowering and Ride quality

Well, I really want to lower my 5.0, but my future hubby doesn't want me to because he's scared of decreasing the ride quality and possible scraping the car on stuff. I agree to an extent, which is why I don't want to lower it a huge amount, just a little - enough to make it look much better.

Anyways, I need some recommendations to do this so that the ride quality is as close to stock and some experienced people who can tell me if they have issues now with scraping

Mine is a vert which is completely different suspension or at least rides like one. But the 1 inch lower FRPP handling totally changed the whole car. The ride is great and in the corners

I actually scraped the stock ride because it had so much bounce( again it is a vert so yours might be different). I would have to go real slow out of my driveway. Now I leave it like all the other cars I have owned with no issues at all.

I cannot speak from experience but from the research I'm done using Steeda Springs (Sport or Ultra Lites) + Koni shocks apparently provides the best close to stock comfort with added improved handling and a reasonable amount of drop 1". That is the setup I'm going with. What you want to avoid is changing only the springs and not the OEM shocks which are not very good to begin with.

I recommend sending a message to Sam Strano. He is a sponsor here and he has a very good reputation helping people out in this regard.

Very interesting indeed. Do you have any pics?

+1 on changing the shocks and struts and +1 on talking to Sam Strano. I had my '08 lowered with BMR springs and Tokico D-spec adjustables and it substantially improved the handling of the car. However, the ride did suffer, no doubt about it. So much so that I eventually removed the springs but kept the shocks, which actually worked out really great. That turned out to be what I was looking for. The shocks and struts are definitely a weak point in the suspension. Question I think you should ask yourself is "what don't I like about the handling of the car?" and then go from there. Depending on what your answer is, lowering the car may or may not be the solution.

Honestly I like the ride quality as is, I wouldn't want it to get any worse though. The 1" drop actually looks like enough for me to be happy with as well. I might do some AutoX in the future but it would just be for fun, I don't want to mod my car for it. So basically I want to get rid of the wheel gap and still have it ride as close to stock or better

I'm going to get steeda sport springs in about a week. ( I've read the ultras are better for track) I talked to Gus on the phone. He didn't push replacing the shocks, but did recommend the PHB. I'm also going to put on 15mm spacers at the same time. I have the 19 5spoke wheels. He thinks it will look good. (He said going with 1 inch wouldn't! )

I'll post pics after I get it done.

If you stick with springs that are prgressive rate, which I believe the 1" drop FRPP springs are, the ride quality should be very good. The progressive rate springs are softer in the first bit of compression and get stiffer as they are compressed, hence the term "progressive", so I think you will be satisfied with the ride.

How do you know if they are progressive rate springs? I'm looking at either the Roush Extreme or Steeda Sport spings.

I believe they're advertised as such. I don't think either are.

The only springs I could find that say progressive rate are the Ford Racing, the Roush say "specific" spring rates, wonder if that's the same?

Nope, specific rate springs are just that, specific rate, not progressive.

OK, this is a 2010 GT, lowered on Eiback Pros AND 20" Shelby wheels, but it rides beautifully. Much better than my '05, but then my car is a weekend toy, so I'm not bothered about a firm ride (although it's more than acceptable).

I had Steeda Sport springs, Koni non-adjustable STR.T (Orange) dampers and Steeda Heavy Duty Strut mounts. Even on the 20" Saleens, the ride was excellent; in fact, I'd say it was better than stock.

Are you referring to the aftermarket chin spoiler? I want one of those and don't want it to scrape

No, I'm just talking about stock GT, GT/California Special, or Shelby GT500.

I had steeda ultra lites on my 06 and didnt notice any difference at all. I have Roush springs on the 2010 and it rides rougher than the 06 did on the steeda springs. Not horrible, but noticeable. However, I think it looks better on the Roush springs.
