Contrary to popular belief, the two are not the same. This is a list of pros and cons of both. Hope it helps those who are in the process of selecting this great looking spoiler.

OEM pros:
1. More durable, heavier, and Ford factory made.
2. separate gurney flap that is plastic and not painted.
3. Can be painted by your choice of body shop.
4. More curved "straight away" aesthetic to overall appearance than 3d. (curved edges)
5. No waves or dimples in material
6. Made of plastic that is more resilient to thermal growth.
7. Includes paper drill template

OEM cons
1. Uses double sided tape. Once it's on, it's on!
2. More expensive. $245-$300 plus shipping
3. Needs to be painted. (Mine needed additional priming)
4. Additional cost for body work will vary

3D carbon pros
1. Pre painted with painted flat black gurney flap
2. No double sided tape, uses foam tape and gaskets
3. More affordable $330 painted and shipped.
4. More aggressive "raised up" appearance with sharper edges
5. GREAT customer service/fast shipping
6. Lighter material
7. 3D spoiler is longer than OEM (more aggressive looking IMO)

3D cons
1. Paint is subjective in quality
2. Visible waves from certain angles in the lighter material
3. Made of urethane that may expand and shrink in temperature changes
4. Gurney flap is thinner and not removable/needs to be cared for accordingly

I tried them both before I finally decided on the OEM. I chose this spoiler because of the lower profile and because it's "factory" made. Whatever option you choose, they are both winners. Once again, they are not exact spoilers in look and feel. If you look closely at the pics, you will see their subtle differences.

Hope it helps someone,

Pat

Well done! Thanks for taking the time to write it up and provide pics. I'm sure people trying to decide will appreciate it. I went with a used OEM one myself.

Thanks a lot for this; I've been looking at both of these online and didn't know what the differences were.

With the recent quality improvements by 3Dcarbon, it's a nice piece. Can't beat OEM though.

I was looking at both products as well, but decided for the 3DCarbon one, simply due to the cost. I purchased it two years ago, and is still in outstanding shape, with no issues in regards to product quality and paint (as I purchased it pre-painted directly from 3DCarbon). Personally, I coudn't be happier and would purchase this product again, if I were in the market for.

Just thought I'd share this...

Glad you caught that. That was the estimate for the unpainted one. The painted one can be purchased for 330 from CJ Pony parts.

I would go directly to 3d carbon. They have outstanding customer service.

I just installed the OEM spoiler today. The instal went great. Notice how the new spoiler has a little pad that covers the larger existing hole in your decklid. Big plus there!

No doubt that this spoiler sits lower than the 3d. The edges are curvy and the spoiler is "heavy." It's amazing how this spoiler once on, looks and feels like it should have always been there.

Great info. To bad the 3d spoiler isn't Lava red. I'd take it off your hands.

Hey man where did you get your wheels? They look great and also are the center caps the ones that are like 50 bucks each? Thanks

I got them at www.wheelreplicas.com they are 2000ish Bullitt deep dish style rims that are recreated to fit the 10 and up Mustangs.

American muscle has a similar set but they are not exactly true to the original retro torque thrust design IMO. Very close though!

The center caps are pricey because of their unusual 2.5 size. They ran me a 100 for the set of 4 from CJ pony parts. They are from 2004 Mustangs.

The wheels are very light weight... Les than 25 pounds each.
