On the fence about Plasti-Dip?

If anyone had wondered how well the plasti dip comes off after an extended time of being on wheels, the answer is yes.

I have had my wheels sprayed since the beginning of June this year, so they have seen plenty of abuse and washes.
I have been pretty impressed with how well they have held up, the only nicks or dings have been from me while rotating tires. They did not peel anywhere.
Today I decided to find out if it would still peel off (since the car is parked for the winter )
So far with 2 wheels done, I've been able to peel off the entire wheels' worth of plasti dip in one single piece. It hasn't seemed to get any more brittle or anything over time.
The only negative thing I could say is that it seems to have left a kinda rough finish on the rim, but a good waxing brought them right back to their smooth finish.

From the beginning my intention was for this to be temporary, but I got to say the black on red look is pretty bad ***. This winter will defiantly bring a new set of black rims so the look is permanent.

Very cool pics! Mine's always come off quite easily, but I don't really have the patience to get it all in one piece. How many layers would you say were on there?

Great work Tron84!. I will follow your lead. What brand and tone of black paint did you used? How many coats?. Did you painted the lugs or bought black lugs?

It's not paint. Paint will NOT just peel off. It's Plasti-Dip.

Yea, by all means don't go and paint your wheels with any black spray paint and think it's going to come off.

It is a product called plasti dip. It can be found at most hardware stores.
I put on 3 coats per wheel, (almost a full can per wheel). I would suggest going with 4 coats though, the thicker it is, the easier it is to peel off.

Yes I mean plastidip.
I will do the same to my car.
Yours looks great.
Did you use it also in your lugs or you replace them with new black lugs?

As far as the lug nuts, I had laid the wheel down flat on a table to paint them, so I just masked around the hex part of the nut, then put the lug nuts in their spots on the wheel and painted them along with the rest of the wheel, that way they got covered on the top AND served as a masking tool so I didn't get any paint or overspray on the chamfer where the nuts mount.
