Factory 18" Polished wheels plasti dipped

I'm posting these pictures of what the factory 18" polished aluminum wheels look like plasti dipped because I had wanted to do this for a while but couldn't find any pictures of what it would look like.

So for any one else thinking about it... here it is.

Nice job! The black wheels really work well with the red paint! I dipped mine but shot over in Duplicolor Graphite which I think looks better on Sterling Grey. I am planning to do AMRs in Graphite but, these look pretty awesome if I can pick up a set as new take offs in about a year

The graphite looks good too. I almost bought the graphite paint as well but put it back on the shelf at the last minute cuz I wasn't sure how it would look.

Thanks! I think it is pretty cool that you can use plasti-dip as a base for lacquer paint. So far they are holding up well after four months. I did notice some lifting around the bead when I used Black Magic Tire Dressing which settled out after it drys up. I switched to Surf City Tire Dressing and have not had that problem. I like the fact that when I get tired of this color, I can just peel it off and shoot them again

did the same thing with the same wheels (only they're painted, not polished) which I use as winter wheels. went all winter without any issues. even had the car detailed during that period and the wheels held up great.

That looks great. How did you get them so smooth? I just did mine today and they all had a pretty rough texture when finished. It was very hot and humid today, not sure if that made a difference.

The humidity definitely could have had something to do with it. How many coats did you spray on? Mine looked pretty rough until the third coat. Also, after putting on the first coat really light and letting it dry i put the next couple coats on fairly heavy.

I put on 4 per wheel. Maybe they didn't dry enough between coats. All the wheels have a rough texture to them.

Sounds like you maybe went too light on the coats. It took just about a full can per wheel with 3 coats. I noticed too that if the previous coat wasn't fully dry that little pin holes would come up through the next coat.

I almost always hate stock black rims but these look better in black! I don't think my 19" nickel finish rims would look very good though
