DIY install of racing stripes
DIY install of racing stripes
Decided my black 2011 GT needed some racing stripes so i went with matte black 12" lemans.
Got some stuff prepped. 2" tape to make sure it goes on straight...ish....
polished up the hood as i figured i would only get that done yesterday..boy was i right.
The instructions arn't really helpful to much. I would def. use a hair dryer to stretch the stripes. but got it laid out, took 3 hours or so to just do the hood.
after some patience and letting it sit for a bit to tack up i started working the stripes. I wish i had pictures of the install but that would probably irritated me more.
only a couple small wrinkles that you would see up close but didn't turn out to bad for a self install...
i know this thread is worthless without pics but im gonna do that after its done.. soo be patient

well started back at it yesterday. Got it mostly complete all that i have to do is the bumper, i tried but i didn't have the patients for it. I might just leave it how it is, cause the curves on the bumper were proving to be difficult.
I sure am glad that American Muscle sends you a ton of extra vinyl, so i have 6ft extra to attempt to get the front bumper striped. It is very tedious work. If you plan on doing it ever, its gonna take a while probably 6-7 hours.
Some tips. When doing the hood and roof, use the water/soap mixture. USEEE very little soap. maybe 1 drop. But when doing the trunk and stuff, i didn't use the mixture, seemed to help and things went a little smoother...thats just me though. USE a hair dryer..helps for those difficult spots. Blast the vinyl for like 2-3 seconds, it becomes pliable very quickly. and lastly take the big round mustang emblem off the trunk lid before you do it... i didn't and it was a pain..
Also installed my black billet grille. That was pretty easy but the instructions seem like they were written by a child.
before..basically when i first go it.

after.. bad cell phone pic, doesn't do it justice.

Thanks, its not professional looking, a few creases here and there, some missed tree sap so it left some small bumps.. but over im pretty happy with it as i did it myself...if it was a pro job and looked like this i would be pissed. but im pretty satisfied with it.
