2013 Clear Bra

Hi,

I was wondering if the precut 3M Scotchgard (hood/fender/bumper) for the 2012 GT500 would fit the 2013s? the hood seems pretty close...

Anyone with insights can comment on this?

Thanks,

It might fit, but honestly I would just hold off till they make one specific for the 13's. Or just take it to a local certified supplier that can custom fit it to your mustang. That would be the way I would do it.

I feel a bit uncomfortable taking it to custom fit clear bra. apparently they just cut the film with a knife right along the edge of the car's body panels.

it sounds very much like it depends on the individual who is fitting it.
if you run across some inexperienced guy he is gonna make micro cuts into your paint and you probably won't see it until some rust start to peel of the paint from there years later.

You just answered your question....wait until one is made specifically for the '13's.

I would sooooooo much rather have someone hand cut one then buy a pre-cut one. pre-cuts don't even wrap around the leading edges of anything. the full custom hand cut is the only way to go. Just find a good shop.

I had one custom cut for the mazdaspeed bumper on my RX8. When I had the bra later removed to have an air duct molded in the bumper, there wasn't one scratch in the bumper from them cutting the bra.

I also agree that they will be able to cover more area.

However, the bumper is the same as the 12 for the 500. the only differences are the grilles and the splitter for the SVTPP.

Most of the higher end clear bra installers won't use pre cut kits, because they don't always fit. They typically use raw film and fit it themselves to ensure a better fit.

I've spoken to a few installers here in San Antonio, and this is exactly what I was told. I'll be having mine cut to fit instead of buying pre-cut sheets.

Price from all three was around $600 for the typical install, a little more if I want extras like the entire hood done.

The secret of the clear bra is to find someone that is Independent, but works for the high end dealers. My dad friended the Lexus guy in town and he did all our cars for 200-250 for the complete package.

1/3 of the hood, front bumper, side view mirrors. I asked for full hood (to rid the car of the line across the hood where it ends) and it was an additional $50-$100 depending on who did the treatment. The best job I've seen on a car was done by a high-end detailing place and they were $100 higher across the board, but the car I saw done by them looked like it was straight out of the showroom. Not a line or seam to be found, and I'm considering them for the service as a result. Ultimately, if a better look is more expensive, then I'm going to spend a little more to make sure it looks as invisible as possible.

Another suggestion is to find a detailer who does it. They will prep the surface before applying the film so it looks like new underneath.

The example from the latter half of the post you copied is about a detailer who does this. I looked them up and called them, and they also clean the surface of the car before applying anything. Sounds like that's the way to go.

I figured as much, that's why I wanted to point that out. If the car isn't right off the floor or has visible swirls in the finish, IMO this is the only way to go.

Anyone know of a shop in the Chicago area? I figured I would ask before I started just calling around.

Clear bra is the single best protective "mod" you can do to your car. I posted a thread a year ago on what was done to mine. Custom, independent, excellent quality installer. All custom fit. I even had him do A pillars and door pockets. 1 year later, 3100 miles later, zero dings or chips. I'll be posting my year end review thread soon chronicling my entire car and mods, clear bra being one of them.
