2011 coupe rear window lover - advice wanted
I want to order a set of louvers for my 2011 coupe. I'm interested in recommendations for products others have had a good experience with and what products to avoid if anyone was not satisfied.
Thanks. My coupe is black and want the louvers to be black but not painted to match. If plastic, a set that are molded black or if aluminum, a flat black of sorts.
Hopefully you guys can steer me in the right direction to a great looking, long lasting, durable, quality product. I started searching and found customers complaining of warping from the heat and sunlight with an ABS plastic set.
I don't think Ford or Shelby sell anything except for the 1/4 panel window and I'm looking for the big set for the rear window like you would see on the vintage mustangs.
Thanks again. Hope everyone had a good holiday.

I definitely would get aluminum, not plastic. I would also get ones that are hinged so you can lift them up to clean your glass. American Muscle sells some that are non-hinged and claim it's a benefit because then people can't "mess with them". If I were getting rear louvers I think I'd get the ones from Silverhorse Racing.

for the REAR glass, the ones from Roush looked best to me- they are used on the PJSaleen cars, a quick search will show them. I understand the ones MRT sells NOW are the same- the earlier MRT ones I didnt care for due to the view from the rear you can see the roof, makes them look taped on...
I'm still waiting for a 'perfect' set to come to market, havent seen them yet. the problems with the rear glass/louvers on these cars are :
1) the top edge is flat/bottom substantially curved- requires each slat to gradually be more curved for uniform look
2) the trunk hinges tilt up and forward, which if the lower louver follows that flat-to-curved profile mentioned above, the lid would most likely hit it...
if I ever get real ambitious (yeah-right) I'd like to make a set like the 69-70 ones, where the top slat is actually formed to seal against the top glass, and with real hinges to the roof(drilled holes- yikes!) just like the 69...but if made what I think would be 'correct' I'm pretty sure new links for the trunklid would need formed too...its a simple 4 link hinge, playing with pivot points could easily make it swing more rearward at the bottom, yet still fully open. I love them on our 69, just havent seen quite what I was looking for yet for the newer ones...
if youre talking side window louvers- well in my definitely biased opinion, SHR is the only way to fly...I still think some custom painting options could be done to really make them even more unique- but they need sprayed bodycolor, and are a bear to paint...buy the prepaints, and use the adhesion promoter. My first set I painted myself, had a full day of painstaking work in them- more than any bodyshop woulda spent on a couple pieces of plastic...I dint follow instructions, they popped out first hot day in the sun- after they came loose, I read the instructions, ordered adhesion promoter/adhesive from SHR... while they were out thought I'd rub out the paint-and promptly rubbed thru the clear on a corner! I was pretty pissed at myself...so ordered a set of prepainted, and tell everyone thats the only way to go- they guys that have painted countless sets have the experience to do the best job, and if you look at even just materials, its a bargain...I had 200 bucks in just paint/additives for that first set, plus 5 hours masking, couple hours prepping mixing/priming/painting- painting down in those pockets is a bear- SHR's guy does a great job- my second set will be 5 yrs old this summer, still look like the day they went in, and my car sits out all summer long.
for your semigloss look, I think a airbrushed flat-to gloss- coming out of the pockets could really be neat- though about it on mine, but...Marcello did give me a couple scrap ones to play with, but as usual, still havent got after that project either. IMO his louvers though are the biggest look changer besides wheels that anyone could do to these cars, they truly look part of the car, not a accessory, and the lines are purely mustang...I dont think flat blacking would look right IMO, but bet you could play with 'trim'...perhaps even just some semigloss vinyl on the angled recesses would accent it like the look your looking for, without giving that 'add-on' look?

Thanks for all the great feedback. Just what I needed. I am very interested in these at blow-by-blow racing:

They, at least from the photo, appear to be the same Roush used to offer:

Also, thanks for the 1/4 side window louvers info. Thanks TMS community. You guys are the best.

Definetly the Roush Heritage Louvers. I have them on my 2011 GT, and I think they look awesome. They are flat at the top, quality made, and hinged for easy cleaning. They are the closet looking to the original Slats offered by Ford in 1969-1970

Ordered them yesterday (the former Roush brand). They come with two struts and look to be the best option. Thanks for all the great feedback.
I agree, the Silver Horse Racing side louvers are my favorite as far as the side options go. I love the flush mounted look.

I'm usually not a fan of louvers, but I think that looks pretty good. I think they look better when there's not a bunch of other add-ons. Very nice Stag bud!

Got my louvers installed. Look great. They were difficult for me to install because one of the hinges was mounted crooked and the bolts did not line up as a result. I am going to order another set of mounting hardware from MRT to make it just right. Things that take others a half hour take me half a day sometimes. They look great but I want to replace the mounting hardware because I had to move it slightly and after mounting it and remounting it, it is not as secure and tight as I want it to be. I could not straighten the hinge because it was painted over. They look great. I just want to make them as tight and quiet as can be. Thanks for everyone's input. Post a picture soon.
