19x8.5 or 20x8.5 Charcoal AMR's

Been looking at buying Charcoal AMR's was pretty set on getting 19x8.5 standard fitment. Since I drive it as a daily driver and prefer to be able to get as much out of the tires as I can within reason (minus some smoky burnouts). But after looking into them a little more as time gets closer to changing my tires which is when going to upgrade my rims. I found that the 20's are actually cheaper... any reason for this? Just wondering what you guys think and would love some feed back from anyone who's had either one including the AMR vendors :P

It's because 20s are a more commonly available tire size. I just put on some staggered 20" AMRs with MT street comps.

Only drawback with 20s from Americanmuscle.com is that they don't do all season tires in that size.

I have staggered AMR 20's and love them. I drive the car everyday and have noticed a big drop in ride quality. Tires are expensive but I think both 19's and 20's are close to the same price.

I'm guessing ride quality isn't the primary focus.

I agree with everyone else. The 19's are notorious for being more expensive because they're a little less common than a 20" tire. However, they've been getting cheaper and cheaper as companies start to realize that 19" wheels are really popular on Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers and most modern sports cars.

I think you'll see them continue to drop until they're about even with 20" down the road, but in the meantime 20" wheel/tire packages are going to save you a little bit of money, depending on the type of tire you're after.

The 20's are going to fill the wheel well up nicely! Our 20" AMR Wheel Packages are pretty light, compared to other popular 20" style like Bullitts, etc. You won't see any decrease in performance, but will probably notice the road a little more. They work well with a 255/35/20 all around or if you go staggered 255/35/20 fronts and 275/35/20 in the rear. That should be still comfortable for daily driving and a little wider out back for that staggered look.

The Mickey Thompson Street Comp tires that MD1 mentioned above are perfect! They have good treadwear, hook up well and look great. We did a story with the guys at Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords Magazine about them paired with AmericanMuscle AMR wheels. Even though they tested 19's, I think the story is helpful!

Good luck! I think you picked a perfect wheel. Were you looking to go charcoal? You'll have to post a pic up once you get them installed!

20" tires are so much cheaper than 19". Discount tire has 255/35 (standard square setup) starting at $122 per tire. NittoNT555 for $138. Can't beat that anywhere. 19" are about $100 more per tire.

Yea planning on Charcoal I think that'll look the best with black and still achieve the stealthy look but yet not so much black that its overwhelming. Thanks for all the good tips and advice guys hopefully in next few weeks I'll have them installed and carving up the pavement

So your recommending 20s? I'm torn between 19 staggered or 20 staggered. I was going to reuse my stock tires on the new front rims as I have 19x8.5 on all 4 wheels now but I'm tempted with the 20s

If I were going with new wheels... I'd almost always size up over stock.
In everything I've seen, usually 1" larger than stock looks great! So, my $.02 is 20", staggered. I also like slightly thicker tires too. My brother's old '05 Saleen had a good size (stock) tire compared on it's 20s.

question... if I change my wheels from stock 19's to the 20's will it effect the speedo at all or will I still be accurate?

Will effect it. Not by much. But anyone with a scanner (including Ford ) can change the computer to account for different wheel size.
