So, I was talking too one of my mechanics and asked him about super charging my 3.7l and he recommended too use a Paxton blower. Now to my knowledge the only supercharger available for the 3.7l is the Procharger unit. He said Procharger is good, but he was very adamant that Paxton was the best supercharger unit. I'm not too sure if he was talking about just using a Paxton blower unit, and fabing the rest of the system or using GT paxton kit for it.

He also said something along the lines of that by using a Supercharger, you would really want to remove the cats because they would be burned out by a supercharger or something like that. I don't know this guy too well, but he was recommended to me by a friend.

 

Yep. As far as I know, Procharger is the only supercharger being made for our 3.7's . I 'might' add a Procharger in a few years if I decide to keep my Mustang

 

Paxton and ProCharger are both centrifugal units. I'd go with the designed for the 3.7 ProCharger kit before I'd fab up a home-brewed Paxton setup. I've also never heard anything about needing to remove the cats.


Based on this "mechanic's" comments, I'd find someone else to do the install.

 

There's also a kit available from Tidal Wave Superchargers that uses a Vortech blower. Both that and the Procharger kit are good options.

And his comments about cats are BS. You can keep the stock ones if you want, or better yet, upgrade to high flow units. There's really no reason to run without them.

 

Procharger FTW. Go with a good tune as well.

 

Knowing very little about this, I'd like to ask if it's reasonable to put a procharger on an engine that has a lot of mileage (six figures)?

 

If you have the know how and tools to be able to change out an engine, go for it If you pay for oil changes and don't much about working on a motor, pass on it
