2011 V6 Cold Air & Tuner Combo From Steeda
Hi Guys and Girls,
Team Steeda has been working hard to create a powerful and proven cold air intake and tuner package for your 2011 V6 Mustang, and we are pleased to announce that we are a little less than 3 weeks from release. I wanted to give you just enough information to get your "wheels turning" so to speak.
Attached you will a dyno sheet showing horsepower gains before and after the install of the cold air intake. A little background on the test vehicle; this 2011 V6 Mustang was running 93 octane and had no other modifications other than the cold air intake and 93 octane tune.
The dyno sheet speaks for itself and the gains of over 20 rwhp and up to 30 ft/lbs of torque are pretty impressive!
The image of the CAI is a prototype and has since been revised slightly but you get the idea. key features are our stainless steel heat shield, rubber seal to seal the airbox against the hood, and our velocity stack to increase air velocity and streamline airflow.

Looks great*as all steeda products do at least imo* I'm sure it will deliver as promised. Only thing I don't understand is why not clock the filter just a little like the MMR and have a completely straight shot into the throttle body?

I'm wondering why the airbox isn't more like the one on the GT where it is more open to the front of the car to take advantage of the air coming in under the front edge of the hood? The way the V6 airbox is it dams off that air coming from the front.
And how does the stock air scoop fit up to it?

I've attached a picture highlighting where that duct is, cause its not that obvious.
We tested a lot of configurations on this vehicle. It took us a while to find substantial power out of this combo. That is why it took us so long to come out with this kit compared to the 5.0L. If you think Ford did a great job with the 5.0L GT, they did an incredible job trying to squeeze every last bit of power out of the 3.7L V6.
We finally have something we are happy with and can release. Once we are closer to release I'll have pricing I can post.

Hey Gus,
Have you done any testing on 87 octane fuel? While I understand the benefit of marketing hype about being able to declare the HIGHEST HORSEPOWER and GREATEST TORQUE of any of the available intake systems, guys like me who use their cars as daily drivers don't want to have to run 91 or 93 octane fuel, and considering the cost of these systems, aren't about to make a leap of faith by "extrapolating" the 91 data to 87 (e.g. "If you get 20 more horsepower and 25 more lbs. of torque on 91, then the system "must" be good for at least 15 more horsepower and 20 more lbs. of torque on 87."). Frankly, I'll rarely (if ever) spin the engine to 7,000 RPM, and I'm far more interested in torque gains in the 1,000-3,500 RPM range (where the engine spends 90% of its time).

The Ford intake system is optimized very well from the factory, and squeezing extra power over the factory airbox was tough. We did a test to measure the restriction of the stock intake setup, and it didnt even begin to show restriction until around 4600rpm. Which told us it would be very tough to make gains. Spinning the engine higher for a higher airflow requirement and to extend the powerband was key.
That being said, below 4600 or so the gains are mostly from the tuning. With 87 octane the timing we can put in will be lower, so your torque increase will be substantially less, but still worthwhile. Up top airflow is more of a factor, even though timing is less as well you can still expect 14 to 16hp up top. Torque on 87 octane will be more in the 18-20 ft/lbs range vs 30.
Also, we realized that more people are going be modifying these in the future and as soon as you open up the exhaust airflow requirement goes up and having the cold air intake becomes much more worthwhile.
Cars with long tubes should work real well with this intake.

Because just like our 5.0L cold air, the 3.7L cold air has a larger mass air meter with airflow rates that the factory setup cannot properly compensate for.
Besides our restriction test on the stock air intake assembly that I mentioned earlier told us the factory setup was not very restrictive. Replacing it with something that was within the airflow range of the stock system was simply a waste.
These were the decisions we were wrestling with when deciding to even release an intake system. We did not want to release something that was not really going to do anything.
