Yet another newbie exhaust question

Who has experience with this axleback set up?

http://www.buyfordracing.com/2011-20...-kit-50-state/

I was going to wait a year before I modded my exhaust but I want it NOW. It's been just about 6 weeks since I got my GT 'vert. Close enough.

Anyway, here's the deal:

2014 GT 'vert w/stick

I want deeper and throatier for top down driving

I don't want to change the valance....direct swap

I prefer to keep it in the family, so to speak, and want to stay with OEM if possible. This SVT axleback is on sale at a great price.

What can I expect from this exhaust?

Any and all advice is welcome.

Thanks

Tom

Well, I don't knew anything about these, but you said "any and all advice..."

Everyone here praises the "GT500 axlebacks," and I think that's what you've picked here.

If anyone can confirm these are the "forum sweetheart" I'll pick up a pair as well.

These are the GT500's that everyone, myself included, loves...especially when paired with Boss sides.

I have them. They are great. Work nicely to keep volume reasonable as well when doing additional exhaust upgrades.

I think you'll find nothing here but praise for those mufflers, with the exception for those who want a very aggressive exhaust note.

If you do get the GT500 mufflers, I suggest you have your resonators cut out and replaced with 3" piping.

Yes Patrick....that will forever haunt me!!!

I used to have the devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other to keep me in check. Ever since I hooked up with all you crazed maniacs here, I've got the devil on both shoulders.

Shortly after I posted my question about the GT500 axlebacks, this older thread popped up which addresses the same thing:

https://themustangsource.com/f830/ex...system-530625/

I'm not sure if I'd delete the resonators just yet, but the GT500's seem like a good choice.

Thanks

Tom

Its a good way to go if you're gun shy about pissing off your neighbors or just think you don't want to go too loud. Plus they're cheap enough that doing other things to get more noise later won't be painful. Great building block exhaust mod and the price to get started is unbeatable.

I have a 5 week old 14 GT and this GT500 muffler is the first mod I did to the car. I myself belong to the older generation in here and just don't want a too loud of an exhaust. yesterday, I had my Barton shifter installed and the guy that did it has a Roush muffler in his 5.0. When he started it, I was convinced that I made the right decision in going with the GT500s. That Roush muffler was just too loud for my taste. I may still do the resonator delete in the future.

This is my 14 GT with the Brembo package. I got in on May 24, Memorial weekend. It currently has 1,010 miles in it. First mod done is the GT500 muffler. The Barton shifter/**** and Energy Suspension bushing were installed yesterday. I have the Eibach Pro and J&M panhard bar in the trunk for installation next weekend. I also ordered the Maximum Motorsports camber/caster plate as recommended by the mechanic who will be doing the install.

Muy bien!!!

From the research I'd done, the Eibach Pro kit requires no other mods. I had a Goodyear dealer swap the rims and install the springs, and my alignment just needed a very minor toe tweak. The car tracks very well, a little stiffer and bumpier on back roads, but not by much, and smooth as silk on highways.

Of course your coupe being 200 lbs lighter will be dropped more than the 1" than I got, but you still might be able to get away with just the springs.

Mwhahaha!!

Did you see my post in one of Burton's threads? I said "if you guys want to keep your sanity, your relationships and/or your money, don't talk to me!" At least you already have one of those taken care of

+1 on resonator delete with the gt500's. It may just be me, but the gt500's only sound deeper compared to the stock axle back and not really that much louder. removing resonators with the gt500's makes them sound much better.

Another plug for the GT500's. I also just deleted my resonators using some over the axle pipes off of a 2013 GT500 that don't have resonators built in. Sounds good.

Gt500 mufflers are to quiet for me by themselves but still glad I bought them since I want to change the midpipe also. Since I only bought this car as a weekend toy, I need more volume. Hoping Boss side exhaust fits the bill.

Tripleblack.... I took delivery on my Black '14 on May 20th also.

It will, and you can change the sound with the baffle. There's a guy that sells them on eBay with different size holes but I just drilled out the ones that came with the kit to 3/4". Wide open was just too loud for me, but it is absolutely perfect like this.
