V8 to V6 Exhaust
What year GT? Don't think so, as the tube diameters are different (2 1/4 (V6) verses 2 1/2 (GT) I think. Your neighbor can have a muffler shop cut off the rear tubes from his V6 mufflers, then cut the GT mufflers tubes off, and have the V6 tubes flared a bit and welded the the GT mufflers.
Then the "ball and socket" will be matched for the V6. I did this with a set of GT500's. The shop charged me $80.00 to do the cut, weld, and install (nessesary to get the alignment spot on).

If you take it to a muffler shop, they can make it work, and it would cost between $50 and $100. It would require him to want to cut his OEM exhaust, which he may not want to do.
I thought the GT had 2.5-inch pipe, but if it really is 2.75-inch, using the GT's cat-back might cause him a loss of low end response.

The stock V6 mufflers are worth nothing...I see them trying to be sold on Ebay, Craigslist, and on classifieds here all the time, with no takers. Perhaps if someone offered me some cash to take them....
Best to cut off the back ends of the stock V6 mufflers and have them flared and welded onto the donor exhaust if it's saving money. Otherwise, buy a set made for the V6 pipe size.

I was suggesting transplanting the entire system behind the cats (mufflers and pipes). Even then, the OEM GT mufflers are heavy and congested compared to aftermarket, but if he wanted to get an aftermarket GT muffler, he would be much better off getting a complete cat-back system from Magnaflow, Flowmaster, etc. At least at that point, no welding is necessary, and he can install it in his driveway.
I'm still amazed though at how many folks are trying to sell their stock V6 or GT mufflers, and for the high prices they think they will get.
It's best to hold on to them, then re-install when they trade or sell the Mustang; this way they can sell the aftermarket exhaust much easier. The only stock axle backs I've known to be worthy of a sale are the GT500's.
