Tuned Coyotes that have 6R80's
Tuned Coyotes that have 6R80's
I've had the Steeda 93 tune since 1,000 miles and now have 19,000 miles. The tune immediately turned the car into an untamed animal just as I'm sure AED, BBR, VMP , Amazon and others have done for you. I'm wondering if anyone has the same traction/ shift issue that I have and if there is a tuner that offers a cure.--- At wot when the car shifts from 1-2 and the tires break loose, the car shifts into 3rd to get traction. The car gets traction and because the rpms are still low in 3rd and you're at wot the car shifts back down to 2nd to get back in the power band. So in essence you get a 1-2-3-2 shift pattern at wot if you're not on drag radials. Is there a tune/ tuner out there that addresses this issue for our bullet proof automatics?

Yes. My VMP tune doesn't do that. It'll spin into second and hold without the extra shift.
I understand exactly what you're talking about. I had a previous tune that acted that way. Really annoying.

That's what I'm hearing on other forums too. I addressed it with Steeda when I first got the tune but nothing worked with a few trial & error tweaks. We softened the tune and that did work but it was like the car was stock again.
Just talked to Rick at Amazon tuning. He told me exactly what the car was doing (shift pattern) before I explained it; quite impressive. He said the auto transmission parameters have to be tinkered with trial & error. It is more than just punch in the value & go. Heading to Mooresville, NC in a week or 2 to get a dyno tune. His auto 11 GT is running 11.00's with a converter, his tune, long tubes and stock airbox ....and doesn't do a 1-2-3-2 shift
Road trip!! Note: In no way am I bashing Steeda. The Steeda tunes are insanely strong and safe (zero #8 failures) but I think they are the manual gods and don't have enough testing for us auto guys. I highly recommend them to any manual 5.0 or an auto that runs sticky tires all the time.

I, too, love having a manual and all but one Mustang I've owned over the years have had manuals. However, my Vortech supercharged '07 GT had an automatic. And, with a few hours of dyno time and road testing, our local tuner guru dialed it in perfectly for drivability and WOT. No annoying 1-2-3-2 shifting on street tires. And, with just 393 rwhp, that '07 GT ran a best 1/4 mile of 11.79 with a pair of 11.85's to back it up. It takes a little extra work to tune an automatic, but the results are worth it!
