Anyone have write ups for home fluid swaps?

I had the TSB performed on my 2011 Mustang 5.0, it was manufactured in September 2010.

Before TSB

At low temperatures, below 30 Deg F, I could not go into 2nd. 3rd was difficult also. After warm up, things were much better.

After TSB

At low temperatures, below 30 Deg F I can actually shift into 2nd and 3rd and other gears easier. The fluid that Ford Dealer put in was the Motorcraft Dual Clutch fluid. I understand that the fluids from other manufacturers is typically per manufacturers specification or exceeds it, but a Transmission to me is an expensive items to repair. Especially when I paid so much money for a car,I want the manufacturer to stand behind the product.

In my case Ford Customer Service and the Local dealer both have records of the issue. If say in the 4 years less the 60K miles my transmission does fail I hope the original communication and repair actions help honor the warranty repairs. This is just my cautious approach.

I am impressed with Fords customer service, they contacted me promptly based on a string I posted here. My last experience with Toyota Customer Service was not so great since they said they can't help and the dealer can. My first and last Toyota ;-) was from 2002 to 2003.

I live in Phoenix so no cold weather issues here, but I noticed right away that my MT-82 didn't like to shift smoothly. My wife has driven the car twice and said that she had trouble shifting into second. At first I thought it was the skip shift, but after owning the car less than a week I disabled that and the shifting feel did not change. I just had my oil (Mobil 1 EP Gold Cap 5w30) and trans fluid (Red Line MTL) changed out with a bit more than 500 miles on her. She shifts smoothly all the time and I'm getting better mileage too! The oil came out of the motor like water and the trans fluid was more like cooking oil than gear oil. I would recommend changing the fluid of the trans sooner rather than later, My 2 Cents at least...

 

Hello, Newbie here. I changed from factory trans fluid (dual clutch fluid --1/2012 build date) to this amsoil 75w-90 api gl-4 (mtg) at 900 miles and instantly noticed much smoother shifting through all changes; especially 1-2. Currently showing 1250 miles, and seems to be getting smoother all the time. Also switched factory shifter **** to a 400gram aftermarket, which made a BIG difference in felt shift effort and vibration during all shifts. It seemed to have made as big a difference as the fluid swap! I also swapped out factory oil to amsoil 5w-30 signature series at 700 miles. Will post back after 1400 miles with progress reports.

I just had the TSB fluid change done on mine. Definitely an improvement. Smooth shifting all the time now.

 

If a car was built in August 2011, any idea which fluid was the factory fill? I think im right around the time of the change.

Everything is decent with my tranny but thinking of doing the Amsoil MTG

 

I just got the Redline that will be going in next sat. with suspension mods.

 

Does that include the rear diff as well? Also would it help to change the diff oil?

 

How many of these diff fluid posts are you going to start?

 

Just enough till I get the answer I'm looking for. Just trying to cover all my bases.

 

No clue. I was talking about the transmission.

 

The tranny fluid change will give you a noticeable improvement in shift feel and engagement. In my surfing, the RP trans fluid is not as compatible as the Red Line MTL which I use and Amsoil MTG. I haven't read anything about an improvement in changing the read diff fluid, only time will tell I guess.

 

What are most people switching to? The Redline MTL or the AmsOil MTG?!

 

I've tried both. Redline was the smoothest but I switched to MTG because summers here are brutal. MTG is awesome right now but sucks when it's cold out for the first 5 miles or so. Redline got notchy when cold also. Both are huge improvements over the crap ford put in there.

 

I constantly had lockout issues on the track with the factory fluid and mtl had cured all of that as well as cold notchiness.

 

Very nice. Thanks for that Well Seeing as I live in So Cal, I guess either would fit the bill. I guess it's a matter now of which is cheaper lol.

 

Remember Redline also sells MT90, which is a heavier weight than MTL(75W90 v. 75W80). MT90 was slick as wet glass in my MT82 but, didn't cure the whining, I'm afraid.
