Finally had a chance to take a datalog of the car on the 93H tune primarily because I wasn't happy with driveability. Specifically the on/off throttle and excessive engine braking. Second the performance at the track wasn't too impressive. I'm no expert, but I am not liking the knock, it looks pretty significant to me. Also how accurate is that A/F? I've never seen an A/F stay that consistent. It stays at 0.84 and does not budge throughout the entire pull. What do you guys think? Outside temp was in the 60's so I can't imagine the knock it was seeing in 100 deg weather. I immediately sent over my log to Bama and they are helping me out, but I HIGHLY advise you guys to datalog your cars. regardless of the tuner. I'm going to wait until I get the new tunes and then datalog each one again. 3rd Gear Pull

Plug the tuner into the OBDII port, run a usb cable from the tuner to a laptop, choose what parameters to log in the SCT software on the laptop and go drive.

Really easy kind of like plugging an iphone into a computer. Depends on which tuner you have.

image went away - do you have charts/data tables? I did a lot of tuning with my last car would be very interested in seeing your logs

It would be nice to see your knock values plotted on the y-axis. That being said, you don't want to see high values of knock during WOT. A good tune should show 0 knock during a pull.

Hey,

Thanks for datalogging with us and sending it over. Everything looks good but we definitely want to look into the tune and see why you're getting knock. We can make some quick adjustments to your tune and we'll get you squared away and enjoying your tune in no time!

Please stay in touch with my Bama team and we'll have you squared away in no time!

Let me know if you have any questions for me if you need some assistance!

Thanks for the reply. Could you comment on the A/F? Is it really capable of being that stable throughout the pull? And just to verify BAMA uses 14.07 for stoich to convert to A/F? I've had tuned cars before and have never seen such a flat a/f. Just awaiting for the tunes from Ryan at this point.

Yes, I can definitely touch on the A/F. .084 is perfect for WOT, that comes out 12.3 A/F on a 14.7:1. When you're just cruising around you should be seeing somewhere around +/-1.0 lambda.

We use everything in terms of lambda. So it doesn't matter what fuel you're using, weather it's pure gasoline or E10 for example. We don't really reference A/F instead of lambda because that can get a bit confusing, depending on the fuel. All of our tuning perimeters are in terms of lambda, we always set the target fuel enrichment at WOT to 0.82-0.84 for 11+ 5.0's.

I hope this helps clear things up! Ryan can also help explain this to you.

Stupid question. Ive heard these cars knock some all the time. Its how they adjust to different fuel. Whats common on a stock tune? How much is to much.

When I used to tune my own car I used to go for as close to zero as possible usually was under 1 degree.

Would be good to see the different scales for various parameters, but from the chart it looks like timing could be increased a bit more at the lower rpms based on the relatively low knock readings. Are there correction factors used with this ECU to assess the timing corrections?

Do you have intake temps logged too? Injector data?

Can Bama adjust the aggressiveness of the fuel cut off/engine braking? I never liked the sound of it.

The revised tune they sent me feels better as far as driveability. It feels kind of like the throttle hanging/lagging after you let off the throttle which helped with the sudden engine braking on decel. At least it stopped kicking. Going to log all these new tunes they sent me and see where we are at.

Just an FYI I am very happy with AM and BAMA the fact that you can go back and forth with them to get the car right is awesome.

Dan, as you know I had my car dyno a few weeks back and during such time I had conversation with the custom dyno tune operator. In conversation, it was the opinion of this tuner to set the WOT command for12 parts to 1 air fuel ratio for 11 plus models. This dyno tuner did not think the air fuel ratio should be set higher on the 11 plus 5.0's and 3.7 engines. Any thoughts on this about keeping it commanded for 12 parts to 1 air fuel ratio.

12:1 still sounds a bit rich, and 11:1 sounds really rich. My car stock was around 12.1:1 I believe (have to check my dyno sheet from last weekend again)

Getting A/F down is the easy part of the tune, getting the driveability right with the fly-by-wire is the hard part. Knock is an issue, especially when running hard and getting the engine hot. 11.1 is rich... 12.1 on an N/A car is about right. 11.7 is where you want to be on an F/I car.

Hummm! 12 parts to 1 , too rich for a N/A car. I'm no expert but according to the custom dyno tune operator the command for air fuel ratio during wot should be set for 12 parts to 1. According to him, that's where the 11 plus engines need to be in his opinion for safe and longevity of the engine and is where he sets it at when tuning a car.
