Can I just update my dongle without going back to my factory tune?

I wouldn't recommend it. When I updated I lost all the files on my tuner. It would suck to lose your stock tune file and not be able to get back to it.

So what if it locks up while loading the factory tune back?! Should I email my tuner and have him save my factory tune first?

Actually, you can save off your stock file and then update the tuner and then restore your stock tune and you should be good to go.

this worries me, tried to set mine back to stock an hour ago, and it failed. again. 85% failure rate here so far on writing tunes to my 2013. Car currently dead, hoping if i give it a try shortly it'll work again...

Just curious. Was car started or running then turned off immediately before loading tune?

in every single case of my failures, it had been running prior. within 5-10 minutes tops. I wouldn't think heat would be a cause, but successes and repairs are always after a cooldown period.

I had a failure also. My car was running then I turned it off and began loading tune. I'm trying to determine if it has to do with retained power.

If you start loading tune while interior is running on retained power and then the timer turns the power off then maybe that is interfering with the programming.

Possibly. There could be enough of a surge in power loss that throws it for a loop.

I think there is some validity to this theory. So far, my car will ONLY take a tune if it's been sitting turned off for quite a while.

man this is weird that this model 2013 is having so many issues with the tuner, i havent even loaded any tunes yet cause of the issues you all are haveing , i also just did the update to my tuner this one is new itsx for my 2013 so no tunes on it yet, thank god but i still need to update my sf3 which i am using for my gt500 and download the stock tune and try to save copy of the performance tune as well, cause al these updates seems everyone is losing the custom tunes.

Seems like the key is to do it when the car is cold and has been sitting for a while

Another thought, I wonder if there is an issue with the ECU being in closed vs. open loop. so when the car is hot, it's in closed loop and might be modifying the fuel-mappings. It may lock the ECU and the tuner than times out waiting for those locks to be released. Just another theory to throw out there .

OK I tempted fate today and loaded a new tune. Used the following procedure.

1). Car was cold.
2) doors shut and window down. Key in ignition.
3) made sure retained power off. No power in interior.
4). Initiate return to stock
5) followed key on/off procedure by reaching in window
6). Return to stock no problem
7). Remove key and wait several minutes again until retained power is off. Opened and closed door to make it quicker.
8). Initiated load of custom tune again reaching through window to do key on/off
9). Stock tune save with no problem
10). Custom tune loaded no problem.

I have an ITSX and used my iPhone to tune.

Just trying to clarify on this Sct tuner issue. Are only the 5.0's having issues with the sct bama tuner. What year stangs are having issues. I have a 2011 v6 along with the Bama sct tuner which I bought back around October 2011. Just a few weeks ago I had American Muscle make me a new tune for a mod. I updated the sct tuner software and then loaded the new tune. No issues here. Are the 11 plus V6 sct tuners having issues or just the 5.0's?

looks like it's us '13 people getting boned. BTW, car was cold today, and I loaded my steeda tune, ran it for a minute, didn't like the idle speed, turned it off, changed it, reflashed, didn't like it yet, reflashed after bumping it up a second time, then remembered to change the redline, so i reflashed it a third time, and every time it worked just fine. I think this open/closed loop theory does have some validity.

2012 has issues too. Maybe only certain strategy codes?? I can't believe SCT can't reproduce this and code a fix.
