Are you referring to "power shifting" where you don't lift between gears?

If so, I would do that seldom...you're putting the drivetrain through some serious hammering doing this. I suspect that many don't even do this at the drag strip.

no.. im talking revving it up , pause, shift. Normally, the rpms would fall quickly during the pause but mine seems to fall slowly when i am in the 6k range

Is this something new with your car or just different from other cars you have driven? You really don't want the rpms to drop to far between gears, even for normal driving.

Pretty sure this is normal. I remember reading somewhere that this was to help burn off extra fuel and make shifting easier.

Guess i should have prefaced my response with this.

If the car has just started doing something strange then i would head to the dealer. I had an issue with my focus where it was hanging RPMs and it was a computer issue that they had to fix. NOT normal. That being said, if you are new to the car and its always been this way, odds are that it is fine.

This is done in the factory tune for emissions purposes. Totally normal/as intended.

Agree normal factory tune to ease driveline lash and smooth drivability. Try short shifting around 2500 with the pedal floored in between. You'll see the RPM's jump up between shifts.

I hear what you are saying but why doesnt it do it ALL the time and not just at higher rpms. If i let off of the gas, the rpms should go down... immediately. imo....

Wonger,
of course the rpms will hang if i short shift and floor it (if that is what you are telling me to do)

I'm just saying doing that will exaggerate what you are feeling. Ever notice how long it takes the car to decelerate after letting off the gas in say 4th around 45 or so? It will try to do it as smoothly as possible on the stock tune to minimize lash and make the ride more comfortable. A tune to sharpen the throttle response will change that. As for not being super consistent, well, sometimes I'll stab the throttle for a blip on downshifts and it needs to think about it, others it perks right up. It just has a little lag, and if it's acting different in between shifts, I bet it is close to the point where it is trying to smooth the transition from accelerating to decelerating and then the clutch goes in. My $.02.

It happens on all the shifts for me

The RPM ALWAYS jumps up and takes a while to get back down. I literally have to wait about 2 seconds before it falls to the range where I can just give it just a little gas and upshift without lurching/bucking etc. Otherwise I usually have to give it more gas or slip the clutch a little longer for smooth shift

Not to hijack, but just wanted to see if that's normal?
