Resonator Only?

Has anyone tried going resonator only? In other words instead of deleting the resonator, delete the mufflers.

Anyone done this on a '13/'14?

It's called muffler deletes. A few companies make them but they sound like crap if you ask me.

Magnaflow advertises their muffler-delete pipes with tips on them as Competition axlebacks .... what a bunch of B.S. ... especially for $450-500+ ..... they're straight pipes with chrome tips and a couple of hangers. Should be no more than $200 NEW

And yes, they're loud, and yes, they drone at highway speeds

Thanks for all of the feedback! I'm just nervous that the GT500s I'm having installed Monday won't be loud enough.

I like deep and loud, much like the FRPP Stingers on my '06 GT although sometimes I wished even they were a little louder. And I really liked the decel burble.

I just installed my GT500 mufflers a few days ago.
When I took the stock mufflers off,
I ran the car around the block with no mufflers just to hear it!
Wow it was loud and sounded like a piece of c**p!
The GT500 are not very loud but sound very clean!
If you want loud you might want to do the resonator delete w/ the GT500's!
Or try another muffler combo!
My 2 cents!

I've heard deleting these will give a little more decel snarling too!

All the reso is on these cars is an expansion chamber so, there's no muffler material or anything inside there to control sound worth a **** on its own.

Got the GT500s installed today and I really like them! I would say they are very aggressive under acceleration but stock quiet at idle. I actually think they might be louder under acceleration than my FRPP Stingers were on the '06 GT. However there is basically no decel burble. I used to be able to coast down my block coming home in 2nd gear and she would burble all the way down.

Having said that the sound under acceleration is really intoxicating. All I can think about since I got home is getting back in the car to hear it again!

The best part about it was the price, negotiated into the deal so I really couldn't be happier. Do I see Borla S Types in the future, probably but really no rush. I might try the resonator delete, or over the axle pipes actually but again I'm not feeling a rush to do that.

Speaking from experience, the resonator delete gives you that mussing burble. For $60 it's worth doing. Honestly. I was bored with my GT500 ABs after a few days, and when I did the resonator delete it was perfect.

Would I give up my Borlas? no, lol. If I were to buy another Mustang and do long tubes, catless, etc.... GT500's for sure.

What made you switch to the Borlas?

I had my mufflers off for a week before I finally got my GT500s mounted. At first I liked it (no mufflers that is), it was mean and angry and raspy sounding... but then I drove it. It got annoying fast. Terrible drone in the cabin, extra rattle and vibration, and too loud.

It makes me appreciate what fine job the GT500s are doing.

Another idea I've tossed around is putting race bullets in place of the resonators. Not sure how much of a difference it would be compared to just deleting them though.

I'm pretty happy with just the GT500's though....I leave for work at 4am 3 days a week so anything louder on a cold startup wouldn't make me popular with the neighbors.

race bullets would probably be even quieter. whether you call it a resonator, a race bullet or a glass pack, they're basically all the same to a degree.

I have jba off road x pipe with 3" Dynomax bullets and turndowns at the axle. I love the way it sounds, especially at 7k. Quite a bit of drone at 1,800 RPM's, I drove it around with just the stock H-pipe on and it wasn't very loud and actually didn't sound bad.
