ProCal stalling - anyone experience this?
I've had the ProCal for about a year and like it a lot. Unfortunately it causes the car to stall occasionally. The first two years I owned the car this never happened so I know it's the tune. Plus I've read on this and other forums, members having the same problem. Doesn't happen a lot (maybe 5 times in the last year) but it's annoying and could be dangerous. Today I was making a turn into Home Depot with a truck behind me when it happened. Fortunately the guy wasn't tailgating me but he got close enough to make me uncomfortable. I'll call Ford Racing in a couple of days but before I do I'm hoping to get a sense of how big a problem this is and share that info with Ford.
Although I'd like to keep the tune, if Ford doesn't have a fix (likely) then I'll probably get another tune although the thought of spending $400 for a tune and tuner is not attractive to me.
So if anyone else has experienced this problem, please chime in.

This happened repeatedly to me (and I have heard from several others with the same issue). I tried disconnecting the battery and re-establishing idle- no change. I tried re-calibrating the accelerator- no change. In fact, the final day I had the Procal installed I had a stall.
I called Ford Racing to ask them about it, and they asked for my VIN and said "someone would contact me." I followed up several times, but never did have any response from them.
Finally, I replaced the Procal with a Bama 93 Performance tune. I have not had a stall yet (not even close), and it is pretty evident that this tune does not have the same issue.
On the Procal, if you have some RPMs built up (say you are in traffic and slowing with gear) and depress the clutch, usually the RPMs will slowly come down to idle. However, on occasion (usually when the A/C is on) the RPMs will "nosedive" and the car will flutter and sometimes stall. Most times, it would flutter and recover- but on occasion it would just stall.
I have yet to see such a "nosedive" situation with the BAMA tune installed.

To be fair, I also installed a Steeda CAI when I swapped from the ProCal to the BAMA (its debatable whether that makes a positive difference or not, but...).
That said, the BAMA tune does seem to pack slightly more punch, and is a more "driveable" tune (for one, it doesn't cause the car to occasionally stall).
I would note that the JMS PedalMax (which I still have installed with the BAMA tune, because I can still feel a difference when I remove it) provides a lot of kick all by itself, and has improved the performance of both the ProCal and BAMA tunes.

Thanks. Glad it worked for you although I've read other posts where disconnecting the battery didn't resolve the issue. That said, it's easy to do so I'll give it a try.

That's exactly my experience. I had a truck directly behind me so I restarted with the ignition key. Not sure if it would have restarted if I had let the clutch back up while rolling.
The car will restart if you pop the clutch (albeit with a bit of jerking). The stalling happened with enough frequency that I eventually just automatically dealt with it by popping the clutch.
That may be my next move although I hate to spend the extra money especially since I'm happy with the tune aside from the stalling. Are you running V2?
If I hadn't decided to add the CAI, I probably would have continued to live with the stalling. However it is nice to drive in traffic and not worry about the engine quitting.
That's the downside of buying a tune from Ford Racing. As far as I know, they sell the tune "as is" with no adjustments or datalogging available. It's unfortunate they haven't gotten back to you - especially since stalling unexpectedly, aside from being annoying, is also a safety issue. I'll give them a call this week and see if I can get a response.
I hope you have better luck than I did. It seems pretty evident their tune has a flaw when it comes to throttle/idle management. I kinda had a foreshadowing of things to come when the guy I spoke with on the phone said "Hmmm, I've never heard of this issue before" (even though several people on this forum have PM'd me to say they've contacted Ford Racing about the exact same problem). Considering their tune is pretty darn conservative to begin with, it seems it should at least be pretty drivable as well!

Had similar issues with the Trackey version of the tune. Its seemed to be mostly when creeping along in 1st and the idle lope is active. I'd put in the clutch to stop, but then let it back out before the RPMs completely dropped to start moving again and it would bottom out. Sometimes you can catch it but putting in the clutch quick, other times the embarrassing stall.
Thankfully with the Trackey you can "relearn" idle by starting up and idling with the normal/black key for a minute or so. Seems to go away for a while after that.
Not sure if the ProCal has any option like that. Probably disconnecting the battery and letting it reset as mentioned in an earlier post.

I have the trackey tune. This happened to me for the first time a couple of days ago. It was a total surprise, nothing worse than having a great looking and sounding car that dies in rush hour traffic... Very impressive. Did start right up, but noticed it had a very low idle after that.
Been running the black key since and no problems. Will need to go back to the track key and see if that resets the problem.

Not to be a commercial for JMS, but- based on my experience- I would try the PedalMax first and see if you still want a tune. Once you fix the throttle lag, it really wakes these cars up (and you have no risk of losing the warranty- since it is undetectable and totally reversible).
You get the best of both worlds. You can use the black key for driving in traffic and save the TracKey for the weekends.
I find disabling the idle lope at startup minimizes the stale concerns, but after I relearned idle I haven't had any issues short of some untimely resets of the idle timer (130 seconds).
My biggest complaint with the trackey is the idle lope smell. Look great, sound great, smell.. not so great.
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread. We actually have a lengthy thread about the trackey. The last 5 pages or so are opinions of the current versions of the tune.
I have had the tune for about 14 months now, had it act up twice after about 10 months on the car.
Disconnected the battery for a few minutes, reattached the cables have not had a problem again!
If I only have to do that every 10 months or 8,000 miles it's not a big deal to me, but to each their own.
I will admit that when the 3/36 war. Is up I'm going to get a AED tune.

If the choice is nothing or TracKey, and its not a money issue, get the TracKey.

as if everyone has a Procal tool lying around
Actually, I do have a Procal tool laying around (I imagine a number of people who purchased the Ford Racing tune would- since it ships with the tune). I didn't know you could use the tool to do an idle relearn. It would have been nice if the tech at Ford Racing suggested I perform a relearn... especially since I specifically complained about an idle issue!
