Procal info and shipping

So how long does it take to get your Procal in once you've entered all your data online at Ford Racing??? Sorry but just wondering since it didn't really say on the site and I didn't get any kind of email confirmation yet.

Also, I now understand the process and the reason for this step and I'm not sure if it's clearly explained to everyone researching the Procal vs. some of the other tuning options.

When you receive the box with the rest of your performance pack (or at least your air filter, like me), you get a voucher with a code to use at Ford Racing Parts. You go there, create an account, and click on a link to register your Procal. They ask for the voucher number you received, your VIN, and the part number off your PCM. And that's it! From there they send you the Procal w/ canned tune.

I felt the need to explain that b/c I had gotten the impression that the reason for the voucher step was you communicated some sort of preference for what you wanted out of this tune. Obviously I know it is advertised with specifics of up to 16hp/7tq but I guess I thought there might be some even milder, safer options or something you could request. But just wanted to clear it up-it's to make sure the Procal is correct for your specific car and ECU!

If you don't want the factory 3yr 36k mile warranty potentially voided, you need a certified Ford racing mechanic to upload the tune from the procal. Apparently, those mechanics are highly trained and skilled at plugging the device into the OBII sensor and pressing the upload button.

But, if you want to keep the warranty, that's the process. My father recently had his pro cal tune installed onto his 2014 5.0 and had to find an authorized Ford racing dealership.

Yeah I know but I'm not worried about the warranty. And if I went to my dealer, it might be done by next Christmas. I had a 2012 Civic Si that I did e-tuning with using a Hondata tuner and software. I looked at the step by step for the Procal and although it's a LITTLE more involved than plugging in and pressing a button, it's not THAT bad and nothing I'm going to fool with a dealer for.

Just to answer my own question, they overnighted the Procal! It's sitting at home waiting for me!

Got it installed. Verdict...hmmm.... I went with this tune for the 60 lb ft increase of torque down low. I do feel it but I'm surprised that's as big a numerical increase as it is. I guess when it's a bit warmer than it is and I actually have a bit more traction from the tires, I might be able to tell more.

I personally would not of chosen that tuning device if I owned a 5.0 but its decent enough. Enjoy and once warmer weather comes, traction will be much better

Yeah, I know it's conservative. But understand I took a detour into Honda tuning with my last car, a '12 Civic Si and it seemed like the more I did to it, the less I liked it. The intake was too loud. The exhaust was too loud and droned like crazy. The manifold swap I did made me lose too much torque down low in a car that couldn't spare any.

My only nits to pick with my GT were the exhaust could be a tad louder and it could have a tad more bottom end torque. I'd bought the GT500 mufflers a few months back and they were absolutely what I wanted. So I reasoned the Procal might be all I needed as well. I think it still may be. When I tuned my Si, I did it by swapping calibrations and datalogs back and forth via website with the tuner. I didn't want to repeat anything like that.

The 60ft lbs thing is a blip on a dyno at 1500rpm....it's about 25-35lbs/ft through 4000rpm. The throttle response improvement makes it feel more dramatic. Steeda tune is a nice alternative for those worried about warranty since it's the same as their cars sold through and warrantied by Ford.

Lund, NewBama, AED are all safe alternatives that take care a few real annoyances like torque management and moves rev limiter up a few hundred rpm to go through traps in 4th on street tires, DR, or shorter slicks.

Got to flog the car a little more on my afternoon commute. I could definitely feel more of a difference.

My car is a daily driver on a roughly 130 a day round trip commute. So I'm not worried about the track.

That's where this tune shines -- on the street. It leans it out a little, makes the throttle snappy and the added timing dials up the torque. You'll see a 2mpg improvement, can short shift it easier and use the higher gears to lug around, helping to save fuel.

Yeah, I did notice the improvement short shifting.

I know my car went .35 sec. quicker in the 1/4 mi.
after the tune, so it does help at the track too!

I think I am pretty close to the limit of what's possible on this tune, personally...without gutting the car or similar aggressive changes.
