probably a stupid question...

Just finished up installing an Airaid CAI into my otherwise stock 12 GT. The directions had me disconnect the negative battery terminal before I started. When I was finished up, and went to reconnect the negative terminal, it sparked.

I seem to recall that a tiny spark isn't abnormal, but my HID headlamps also turned on, and I briefly smelled a faint amount of smoke. Haven't tried again, because I'm not sure if that's normal.

FYI -- the headlight switch is in the off position.

Whats going on? Don't make fun of me, LOL.

The thing I didnt understand is why the headlights turned on. I found that bizarre.

Oh and btw, I still havent tried again. It was like 1am when I tried that, and I'm at work now, lol.

It's totally normal and there was no need to disconnect the battery in the first place.

You will always get a little spark when reconnecting the battery, there are a number of things drawing power directly from the battery.

No idea why the headlights would come on but I wouldn't worry too much about it, probably the HID ballast retaining energy.

Totally normal. It is important to disconnect the negative terminal so the pcm will re-learn the new maf reading. Your idle will hunt for a bit after you start it the first time so don't get worried about that either.

There's no need to disconnect the battery as the car will learn on it's own any changes that have been made. On the older cars yes. These cars no. I've flashed many different tune updates and have never needed to disconnect the battery.

Thanks for the info everyone. You'll be pleased to know my car (or me) didn't blow up lol

After I knew it was normal I put it on real quick and everything was perfect.
