Please help me decide! (exhaust recommendations please)

I’ve been thinking of changing my exhaust, but its hard to decide since I have not been able to hear any of the options in person (anyone around the Cape Cod MA area and want to get together to compare notes?). I’ve searched lots of threads and listened to may sound clips, but that only get you so far.

I like the stock tone, but the volume leaves a lot to be desired. So, basically, I’m looking for an option that will be louder and have that warm, deep, raw muscle car sound but also roar on acceleration. I like the burble on deceleration and the deep rumbling at idle. I don’t care for the more raspy or high pitched exhaust styles.

I’m leaning towards the Borla S-types or Boss H-pipe w/side exhaust. It seems that the GT500’s, Roush, and Borla ATAK’s are also very popular. Anything else I should consider? The car is a weekend cruiser (not DD), used for an occasional road trip, and I want to avoid doing anything extreme that would attract unwanted attention from the noise police or dealer service department. Forward compatibility with future mods could be a bonus (like going from the Borla axle back to cat-back system or adding electric cutouts to the Boss system).

Which would you choose in my situation? I’d be especially interested in hearing from those who have had one (or more) of these options on their car for a while, or that chose one over the others. Thanks in advance!

Not sure if you have a GT or V6, but i have the borla s-types axle backs on my V6, and i recently heard the same ones on a GT, sounds awesome on both cars. Can't go wrong with the borla's

If you like the stock mufflers sound but just want more of it then the GT500 mufflers will give you that.

Everyone likes something different though, I personally love my obnoxious Outlaws!

This question is asked multiple times every week. Use the search function and you'll find lots and lots of discussion.

nothing compares to Borla S-Types with the resonators removed and your catted X/H pipe of choice (even stock)

Wish people would only post from their computer.

I have a 2013 GT with track pack, 3.73 gears etc.

My question is basically which setup would produce a louder, richer exhaust note full of low, warm, rumbling, burbling goodness (as opposed to higher pitched raspiness). Which exhausts are best known for this kind of "old school" muscle car sound?

At first I was leaning towards the Boss sidepipes, but now I'm leaning towards the s-types and thinking about the ATAKs...

Late model GT500's are a good choice. Obnoxious exhaust? Well, not for me.

GT500 quad with resonator del will satisfy your 80 % wish ( richer exhaust note full of low, warm, rumbling, burbling goodness ) will not probably satisfy 20% wish (loud) IMHO.

Just installed Roush AB's on my V6. Have to say they sound great. Low rumble at idle, growls around 1500-2500. From 2750-3250, i've got just a tiny bit of rasp til it hits 3500 then back to normal growl.

If you don't want raspy or high-pitched, do not get the Roush axlebacks. I installed them on my V6 and I absolutely love them, but I highly doubt you'll like them.

Any exhaust you get will grow on you, no matter what you buy..most of the time.

Maybe Magnaflow or Flowmaster? Borla S Type Stingers?

H-pipe helps keep the raspiness down. The X-pipe promises about 3-5 more horsepower(not worth it IMO). Full welded aluminum mufflers will give you a better deeper tone you're looking for. Stainless steel will always give you a higher pitch tone just due to the nature of S.S. I still can't believe people buy in to Xpipes and stainless. Really got to get rid of my bassani system on my car.

As I understand it, x-pipe gives you more high end horsepower (at the expense of some low end torque) and a more race car-like sound. H-pipes give you more low end torque and a more muscle car-like sound. I'm keeping an H-pipe.

After debating this since October 2012 when ordered the car, I finally decided on the S-types.

Thanks to all for your input and thanks to AM for the great price and customer service!

I have the Borla S-type cat back...it's amazing the tone it has when you step on the gas is one of the best tones out there and when you get up on the highway for a road trip it tones down and you can't hear it so you can listen to the radio or have a conversation with whoever is with you without the drone and if you want to hear it just step on the gas and it comes alive again...so you can't go wrong with Borla S-Type

bms - Did you go with the cat back or the axle backs?

Borla S types are at the top of my list when the time comes.
