Now catless, hate the exhaust note.

On my new motor I've been pleased with everything but the sound.
its raspy. Way raspy, so much so I just hate how the sound "trumpets".

The setup is
Magnaflow Competition Catback
Boss302 midpipe (had to cork the sidepipes though)
Jegs cat deletes
factory manifolds
11.5:1 boss302 style motor.

Recommendations on how to get back to a nice sound?

-install cats
-change to GT500 mufflers or other
-add some other muffler in center

What else can I try, or does anyone have examples of a catless coyote that sounds good?

I'll get some video today of my setup today. I really do miss how it used to sound with cats and the sidepipes open.

Well what kind of sound do you want? a European higher note, or a muscle deeper throatier sound. I have have more of a European sound on mine.

Btw maybe upload a quick video or sound clip so we know what yours sounds like and why you hate it so much? You don't like the exhaust note, or just how loud it is?

Mine is raspy now without cats. It almost sounds like I have glasspacks.

Try putting the cats back on. I have the magnaflow competition series axle back with the twin 4" tips. Tried the cat less x-pipe and it became raspy. If you want to stay with the cat less pipes, might want to go with a quieter muffler like the GT500. I love the way my magnaflow axle back sounds right now.

If my cat delete pipes weren't welded on, I'd have already swapped mine out.

Some video of how mine currently sounds. The GoPro was in a open-back housing with windsock, but the microphone is garbage. Its deeper sounding with a bit more growl and bass to it, but you get the idea.

Ok i see what you mean now, i have a boss 302 with stock exhaust and the side pipes open all the way and it sounds very similar but quieter than yours. I would say lose the boss mid midpipes and go with either an X or H. X if you want a higher more exotic pitch and H for a deeper rumble kinda the one you dont want. You might have to put hi-flow cats if you dont like it that loud but thats up to you. I run Kooks Longtube headers, Kooks o/r X pipe, and borla axlebacks. I love the borlas they add a great note to the exhaust. Some other good sounding mufflers are bassani, and roush as well. I have 3 videos im uploading now but probably going to take me some time so i will comment back with videos of how my car sound.

IMHO you cannot go wrong with changing out to the GT500 axle-backs. That would solve your dilemma. A friend in the area has gutted cats, stock pipes (with resonators) and the GT500 axle backs, and it sounds great. Still no drone on the highway. I still have yet to hear the combination of the GT500's + Boss midpipe though, so that would change the tone some as well.

BTW, here is a decent video of my setup with the GT500 axle backs. Half way through the video I switch to the rear-facing video. I used the GoPro with the open-back so you can hear the note way better.

In order to avoid as much rasp as I can, I opted to use a catted h-pipe with the Pypes super system to go with my long tubes.

The cats will help tone down the sound a little bit, h-pipe are generally less raspy then x-pipes. The Pypes super system uses a set of mid-mounted mufflers along with resonated tips. Resonators/resonated tips have always helped tone down rasp in my personal experience.

Though none of it is installed yet, in theory it should be 'good'... at least I hope.

Catless mids usually equal drone. Corsa is expensive but has the right balance of cruising vs wot.

Btw.. Some of the nastiest videos I've seen. Lol.
