No More Skip Shift!

Just talked to Doug at Brenspeed and they now have new software that allows them to delete the 1-4 skip shift in the manual.

I assume that means most of the Tuners that use SCT can now do it as well or soon will be.

We've had that Feature Disabled in our Tunes Since May 2010! Seems like some are late to the game.....

No kidding, you'd figure with Evo's constant self-promotion they would have highlighted this feature.

Two questions?

1. Doug works at Brenspeed now?
2. If you need to disable the skip shift why did Ford put in a six speed?

Different Doug.

The Skip Shift is their because of the EPA rules that force manuals to shift at 1-2 at 17 mph, 2-3 at 25 mph, 3-4 at 40 mph, 4-5 at 45 mph and 5-6 at 50 mph.

By having skip shift it becomes a 4-Speed by EPA rules and is allowed to get into 6th at 40 mph. Ford was very careful with programming and since I almost never spin the rpm up (2800 rpm with 3.73) with less than 25 % throttle (I match throttle to rpm) I never has an issue but some people did.

Meanwhile automatics are allowed to skip gears and get into top gear as early as they want (Sometimes under 30 mph). Why do you think automatics can beat manuals on the EPA test in some cases?

Extremely informative information there, Gene. Thanks for that! Kind of sad, all of the work-around's that companies will go to great lengths to make just because of specific wording of laws.

Disappointing that it is passed along to consumers, but hey, if we get a 412hp car in a land of hybrids and increasing CAFE requirements, I'd say it's all worth it in the end.

See, now why would you go and taint a decent reputation with such a poor spirited post? That's just elementary Sales 101... (don't bash the competition)

You could have given the same information (that you guys figured it out first) without practically throwing yourself on the ground figuratively like a 5-yr old throwing a temper tantrum.

Anyhow, congrats on being first out of the gate. Now than others have caught up, that little fact has absolutely no value in the marketplace, but don't let that spoil your fun. Sorry to be a pest, but poor sales tactics really grate against the skin for me. It's like watching children at the park argue over insigificant feuds...

Every up to date SCT dealer has the skip-shift removal incorporated in their software now, so any of them can remove it.

Our Race tune comes with the skip shift disabled by default. Our Performance and Street tunes, it's an option in the drop-down menu on our tune submission form.

Steeda has had that update for a while as well. Just gotta ask for it. It's been so much more fun driving the car without it since then.

It's a huge difference on the fun-meter, and doesn't sacrifice gas mileage, in my experience.

Chris, is AM considering selling just one tune? I don't need three (for $150).
