Mt82 build or tremec??

Ok I have a 2011 supercharged mustang gt that likes eating manual transmissions. My question is if anyone has built an mt82 or did a t56 swap. If so can you please chime In with some Info. Mainly wondering if anyone had built a mt82.

Check out KP Racing in Houston. They weld the forks, replace the fork pads with bronze fork pads, and also offer rem treatment for the gears/synchros.

The T56 is a proven, strong transmission, but the gear ratios just aren't right for these modular 5.0's. We don't make peak torque until about 4400 rpms so the gearing of the MT82 is perfect for our motors.

Go with the T56 magnum. Much smoother shifts, can be ordered with different gear ratios, very tough trans. The T56 would be better than the mt82 but still not a very smooth shifting trans.

Really looked at doing this myself, but is it worth the 5k or so price tag.

D&D performance sell the complete kit for $4k. Not sure if its worth it or not. That's completely up to you.

You'll still need a new clutch and most likely you'll want a new shift ****. And also you will want to change the rear gears. Srsly

For 2k I bet you could get a brand new clutch and a spare MT82 just in case the first one dies.

I have to mt82's with 4th gear broken. With in a month. I just did a new clutch and everything. The trans just isn't holding. I have a trans guy where I live pulling it apart Monday to see what keeps breaking. After that I'm gonna rebuild them with new internals and bronze shift fork pads. After that I'm selling both for a t56. I want a trans actually built for my power levels. Yeah the gear ratio my be different but I'm gonna go with it and work the rear to get it where I want it. There has been to many input shaft failures and other problems and I don't want to keep breaking. I can get a new disk to match my spec 3+ but I'm just gonna get a kit with new twin disk. I'm just scarred of the ratios but in the end I would rather have strength over a faster car.

I think 4.10's get you close to the ratios of the MT82.

You should not be breaking MT82s with that kind of torque. There are several dozen people running 700lb/ft+ of torque on stock MT82s, some for a long time, and have had zero failures. On a 3800lb car the MT82 is rated for 700+lb/ft of torque. Perhaps you are shock-loading them too much? Are you power-shifting?

No power shifting. Never broke one in the 7 months I had a stock clutch. Maybe it's to much torque for a clutch that actually grabs hard. Possibly the clutch grabs to hard. I don't know all I know is it broke the same way both times. I will know soon as I get it opened up next week. I drove the same way before the new clutch and tune. Didn't break then.

Update: my tranny isn't broke but 2days ago i ordered a tremec, my reasoning, sell a healthy mt-82 and recover some of the expense of the new 1! Install is in 3weeks going with motive 3:90 gears not gonna do 4:10s! Also my new clutch will be a spec 3+ rated at 875 ftlbs of torque! Cant wait!
