Air flow - like water - follow the path of least resistance.
The size of the tubes allows blow by gases to escape the larger tube easier. Hence there is a 'flow' with the small tube only serving as an intake vent so to speak. There is no need for a Sep on the small tube. The crank case doesn't care which bank it vents through.
I believe the 5.0 is like the 4.6... for some reason Ford doesn't use a one-way Valve in the vent tube - its just a wide open vent tube.

Just got mine Moroso Air/Oil Separator
I went with this air-oil separator too. I really like the way it looks and the fact that they use all metal fittings. I busted one of the plastic fittings on my JLT so I decided to give this one a shot.
Here is a post I put up on a different forum with pictures and other details.
I also did a side by side comparison with my JLT to give a little perspective on size difference.

The passenger's side breather is under vacuum and pulls air OUT of the crankcase into the intake manifold. If there's oil in the air in the crankcase there will be oil going into the intake manifold. The driver's side breather is the source of filtered air that replaces the air that's sucked out of the passenger's side.
The only time there's oil flowing out of the engine into the intake on the driver's side is when you have an engine with significant blowby and you're near full thottle. Otherwise the airflow is from the intake to the engine and there's no oil involved.
