Who did you buy them from and did you have any issues with them? i looked on AM and saw that the $99 dollar set have had quite a few problems with the bracket on the fender lining up properly. thanks in advance.

Steeda has done some extensive research on the Billet Hood Strut Kit.

There are clearance reliefs in the brackets for the washer fluid hose and a rubber bump stop on the underside to protect the paint on the underside of your hood.

Great dress up for your engine compartment.

Disagree. Drilling into a brand new good didn't seem worth it when plenty of bracket style setups work perfectly fine.

I have the color matched CPC struts. No drilling...installed in minutes. The fit and color is no where near factory. I wouldn't reccommend these.

 

The others are cheap looking and don't have good support points.

 

Hardly noticeable under my hood and support it just fine. If you want to drill holes in a brand new car, go for it. Just wasn't for me when the bracket style work fine, don't look cheap, and support the hood perfectly.

 

Go on the redline website and they have a video to explain it. There's holes all over your car. Unless you can't handle a drill, there's nothing to be scared of.

 

The geometry of the Redline is the best and what every OEM would do. They last longer as the pressure is less to start out with and they put less stress on the hood. But like was said you need to know how to use a drill motor and drill stops so you don't screw up.

 

Of course redline has a video to make theirs seem better. That's good marketing. But people have been using bracket style struts for years, and they hold up the hood just fine.

Having holes in my car already doesn't negate the unnecessary drilling of more when a non drill product will work absolutely the same. It's not a fear. It's a choice to not make more unnecessary holes.


To the OP: I went with MRT struts and really like them. Hold my hood up just fine, and were drill free. Barely noticeable under the hood and gets rid of the prop rod.

 

It's geometry not their video that makes them better. There are holes all over your car with zero purpose and the holes you drill for the struts are filled with hardware not left empty. Redline wins sorry. Can I see a pic of your Lewis?

 

Well their "geometry" doesn't make them hold my hood up any worse than theirs. A friend of mine has red line and they work just the same as mine. No my hood doesn't blow down in the wind, no it doesn't flex. It's held up higher than stock, and securely. Not sure how that's a lose but agree to disagree.

This isn't a win or lose situation. I don't care where holes that are unfilled or filled are. I don't see how adding more holes when you don't need to is necessary. If you like your red lines, good for you. I'm just giving the OP an opinion that red line's marketing jewjew is not to be believed immediately. From this engineer's standpoint, they both work EQUALLY well.

The MRT's on mine work great....bolt on install.

 

+1 on the MRT, had them on the 05, now on the 11 with zero issues and
simple quick install.

I'm going to agree with you. Drilling a couple of holes is very easy, not something to shy away from. I personally believe, due to the extent of research I did before buying the Redline struts, that Redline has a superior product in this regard.

Having said that, if I weren't comfortable drilling my hood and using a pop-rivet gun, I wouldn't have an issue using a reputable brand besides Redline.

Here's the best picture I have of my Redline hood struts installed. With the better, longer strut travel, I KNOW you have a better holding solution than those shorter ones that mount so close to the hood hinges.
