Hood Strut Lift Modification
Hello Everyone,
I am soon to be an owner of a '14. Just waiting on a progress report. One of the first mods I plan on executing upon receipt is a hood strut lift kit mod. I prefer the shorter ones with the bigger bracket.
However, I understand that some people have exercised concern over how the hoods wavered a bit in stronger winds when up.
I work at Local Motors, and we build Rally Fighters. We use a locking strut for safety. I'd like to know what size struts are being used on these kits, so I can acquire a locking strut of the same size. If anyone has one of the bracket kits they are no longer using, I'd be interested in taking it off your hands...
Appreciate the help!

Currently a Corvette Owner!
CPC-NXT, with solid brackets, pre-painted to match OEM color, fit great, work great, look like it came from FoMoCo. Very easy install.

I have 3 different brands on my cars sitting outside right now. The Redline ones are by far the best, went with other brands back before Redline made their no drill ones.

Just to reiterate, I don't want the Redline, large angle style. I understand how well they work, but the lower profile of the bracket style is more important to me. Not knocking the product at all.
The Redline style just sticks out too much for me-I don't really care about where the hood is-I either want it up all the way or not at all.
I don't want this to turn into "which style is the best" thread. I still would like to know the total length of the uncompressed strut (on the bracket style, like the CPT-NXT example), so I can get myself a locking one.

Get Redline... LOL J/K..
I Have extra brackets and shocks from a kit I previously didn't use.
NXT compressed 7 3/4
Redline compressed 10.1/4
NxT is the extra set

I have the MMD kit from AM, I find it to be durable and sturdy. I'm happy. However, I have never seen or used the redline product before so I have zero experience to base an opinion. I have heard zero complaints from their kit and will try them on my next mustang,....wife may get one so I'm trying my hardest to persuade her lol

The redlines lift the hood a little higher than the stock prop rod, they have the smallest brackets of any design at the fender and NO bracket on the hood only a ball stud, so how can any others have lower profile brackets that you seem to think the others have? And they don't lift the hood any higher than redline either. And when the hood is open they sit well back out of the way giving lots of underhood working room.
We're just trying to understand your strong objections to the better designed redline kit.

The Redline strut kit takes up a greater amount of surface area than CPC, if you're comparing triangle to triangle... There is nothing wrong with that. I just want a kit that takes less surface area, closer to the actual hood of the vehicle. I don't like how far out the Redline kit is-I would be purchasing this kit for aesthetic value, not functional-this is especially true given the fact that I haven't received my '14 yet.
"Best" is a subjective term that I didn't even use in my request. The best one for me looks to be CPC-the lower profile, more out-of-the-way it is, the better (for me). People were citing that the Redline Kit can actually lift the hood up for you, and I was trying to convey that I didn't really care about that. The bracket is smaller on the Redline, but it's clear the Redline strut is significantly larger than the CPC.
I hope I'm not coming across as combative.
My question was answered, and when I receive my car, I'll update this thread with what I've come up with.
