HELP! want resonators off - anyone know a fair shop in/around Sterling VA??

I have the GT 500's installed, and they sound great. I desperately want 3" pipe welded-in in place of the resonators. But here in NOVA, the great land-o-the-rip-off, every Yahoo I talk to at the franchises, wants upward of $200-400 dollars to do 30 minutes worth of work. It's laughable.

I need to hit a speed shop, where they get what the whole thing is about. I am willing to pop for $100, or so....but come on.

I tried JAX, btw....he does not have the capability to do what I need there. he wanted to downsize the pipes,...clamps...etc. Not what I want done. I want stainless/or aluminized at minimum, 4 welds.

Any/all help GREATLY appreciated. Hell, if someone has a welder, and wants to tackle, I will make it worth their while. I live right off rte 7, at 7100 - Fairfax Cty Pkwy.

If your willing to drive a little check and see what JPC or MBS (mandrel bending solutions) will charge you. They are both in MD but I am sure both are very capable.

If youre willing to spend the $30 on fuel, you can get it down for around $100 for sure here in waldorf md area... Mr. Muffler on crain highway should be the closest..Ask for Aaron to do it, friend of mine

Thanks, I have 4 more Tele's, and a LP in the closet, and about 10 more amps. Yes....need help! I have been playing/performing for a many years.

Diva, maybe I'll see you around DC. I work at GW Hospital, at Foggy Bottom. Beautiful ride you have there.

I could always pop out for a long lunch to get the resonators done around DC, if needed. If I can't find anyone around the NOVA/DC-metro, I guess I will be giving ol' Aaron a call. I am dying to get these things off! Thx

I have the GT500 SVT mufflers on my 2011 GT, and, like the OP, I also think they sound great. I'm a novice at exhaust, so can someone please tell me what the pros and cons are to resonator delete? Will I gain any power? Will it be obnoxious loud? Is it legal? Will there be annoying drone on the highway? What do resonators do, exactly? Any info will be appreciated, thanks!

They choke down to approx 2" and even less at the actual core. They weigh approx 9lbs for the pair, power wise guess you have to keep the faith IMHO it gains approx 10-15% overall volume at WOT and yet maintains the same pitch. You wont lose that perfect balance of volume between the CAI/GT 500 AB if you have one. You have to check your State for legal issues. No drone but that slight popping you have now while decelerating might increase. My X-pipe seemed to have subdued some of that. Maybe someone else can chime in to be certain. Resonators at the core walls breaks up the sound waves and in turn help cancel each other out. It only helps the muffler out so its mainly the reason you wont pick up obnoxious volume. The only CON I can think of is shelling out the dough to get it done

I think you might be right in that the resonators can help you get rid of "popping", after doing a full Flowmaster cat back I get some good pops that sound similar to back fires, though I know they are really just from allowing the car to decel and then giving it gas again.

Hey all...any negatives with removing the resonators? Any drone at steady highway speeds?

Does anyone have input regarding the material used for the 3" replacement pipe? Alumininized vs. Stainless...pros & cons of both? Price difference is around $50 (Stainless is more).

i honestly felt that springing for stainless really just wasn't worth it. I mean I know me. This exhaust will be changed probably 3-4 times during the owning of the car, might as well just go for aluminized.

Done today, 40 minutes, $80, great local Mustang speed-shop. Sound is better, from idle, to cruise, to WOT. Thanks!

A couple friends if mine goto Excessive Motorsports in Manassas Park. One lives near you, the other in Burke. Also have you just looked into replacing the over axle pipes? IIRC they can be had for around $150. I'm considering this for my '10 after I see what the mufflers do for it next month.
