Gt500 axle backs

I just got my axle backs today and I was wondering if I had to do anything to install them like a tune or can I just bolt on and go? I have never done an aftermarket exhaust on any cars of mine so if it sound like a dumb question I'm sorry.

For axle backs just bolt them up and enjoy. Have fun with the new sound.

I am wondering if they are Take Off's or What. If they are just Stock GT-500 Take Off's They are likely to be Quieter than what he already has. That is the Case with the 07-09's as they Used GT-Vert Mufflers. But his post also says aftermarket Exhaust so Just curios as to exactly what he got.

The GT500 axlebacks being sold as new are the same as take offs and are louder then the stock gt mufflers.

Very Good. I was concerened that they were like the 07-09's which were a backward step. I did not want him to be disappointed. I have been out of the Loop for awhile on the 10-12 Stuff. A situation I am currently addressing. Thanks for the Info.

Ok I got the gt500 axle backs on last night, it was a pretty easy job and only took about 45 minutes on a rack, my first impression is wow they sound great, not too load but they are noticeable loader then stock one of the best 300$ I've ever spent. For those on the fence about the gt500's it isn't disappointing at all. I ordered them from stang mods everything was smooth ordering from them

Yeah, the 2011 5.0 stock exhaust sounds nowhere NEAR as good as the stock exhaust on the 4.6 2010 & previous. The stock 2011 GT500 mufflers are an upgrade over the stock 2011 GT mufflers Big Time. I think the 2011 GT500 mufflers differ in diameter from previous years (I could be wrong).

Ha, I already have parts sitting at home. I'm not even supposed to be back in the US till June to pick up my car. Pretty sure I will have 90% of my planned aftermarket parts sitting in the garage when I bring the car home.

I tried ordering them from AM two weeks ago and they were on backorder. The sales guy said it would be anywhere from 4-6 weeks before they got them back in stock.

I called late model restoration and asked if they would ship them to me for free since American Muscle had free shipping. The sales guy at LMR said no problem. I ended up getting them in 3 days. Same price as American Muscle also.

Thanks for the heads up on how long it will take for those to be back in stock, I haven't had a chance to call. I was looking at AM because they have a $10 coupon to make it a total of 254.99 to my door but I'll pay the extra $10 to have them for when my car gets here the first week of May!

There's a guy on the SVT forums selling his GT500 cat back exhaust, mid pipe included.

If I ended up with this cat back as opposed to just the mufflers, would I need a tune for that?

Thanks.

I am definitely on board with the GT500 setup.
From what everyone else has said, it's exactly what I want.

08 GT500 take offs?

I just found this post after searching for GT with GT500 axle backs. I own a 2010 GT and came across a set of 08 GT500 take offs with less then a 1000 miles on them. This post has me concerned that the take offs my not be the ticket to a better sound? They look much like my stock mufflers and when I searched AM to see what was being referenced throughout the post, they appear to have a much different structure. Can anyone shed some light on what to expect (or not expect) by swapping the GT mufflers with GT500 mufflers?

Also, I am curious on fit. Axle backs are categorized from (05 - 09) (10) and (11 - 12). I have read where the tail pipe needs to be a bit longer on the 10 to clear the rear valance. If I use a set form an 08 will the tailpipe be recessed?

Hello,

I have a set of GT 500s axleback exhaust that are 3 days old. I will be taking them off my 2011 GT and purchasing a different set. If interested let me know!

The 07-10 GT500 Mufflers are not what you want (Those are quieter than stock) You want the 2011+ Mufflers....different internal chambers and sound AWESOME!

Put them on my 5.0 two weeks ago. Change in sound was outstanding! Louder, much lower/meaner tone, nice burble when letting off the gas and downshifting. The sound has gotten louder and lower as they break-in. Just what I wanted; not raspy, no drone like some of the others I looked at. Great mod for the price.

Picked Up mine today ($150) and promptly sprayed them flat black....and polished the tips.
I also snapped a pic inside the muffler, not sure how this compares to the stocker!? I will have to update as soon as I get a pic of the stock one.

Are they new? If so, they will break in and get a little louder. I love mine, but been tossing the idea around of cutting the resonators for a little more growl.

Why did you paint them?
