Hey guys. I'm planning to get an axle back soon. I am very picky on what I am looking for and decided on the steeda (kooks). I think it sounds best over the borlas etc.

While getting more comfortable with the 13, I have just fallen in love with the engine sound and do not want to cover it up now. At the same time, she is way to quiet.

Long term, exhaust wise I plan to only add an x pipe which will add some decibels as well. (I have a full out track car so I want to keep this one ~stock).

A buddy of mind added the GT500 axle backs to his and deleted the cats and loves the sound. I started thinking that they might be the combo I want, a bit louder out back but not over powering the intake sound. And they are half the price!

So finally my question. Since I don't plan on deleting the cats, which obviously increases the sound level. Will the axle back alone (for now) give me what I am looking for? Can you hear them in the cabin? I've read people removing the resonators. I don't want to do that. I have seen the YouTube videos and hear the difference, I just want to know from those that have them, will it be enough.

Thanks

I can hear mine while cruising around, but at WOT they seem to drown out.

The gt500 a/b with the res deleted sounds fantastic, quiet as stock when cruising, zero drone, nice little burble on down shifts, and sounds sweet when winding it out.If you go cat delete you know you,ll have to get a tune to turn off the rear o2 sensors.I would leave the cats on and just do the delete resonators(3 inch pipe welded in place) with the gt500.s,you,ll be very happy.

Agreed, the GT 500 axle backs with resonator delete is the way to go, just the axle backs alone isn't enough; I made that mistake and had to make two trips to the exhaust shop

See that my only concern. I don't want to do any cutting and welding. It's not fear, I mean I could do it myself even. I just down want to go down that road with her yet.

I get that the gt500 alone is still pretty quiet but that might be perfect bc I still want the intake/motor to be louder. Plus when I get the x pipe that will add a bit to the volume.

So after you had the axle backs on but before you got the res delete I get that for you, it wasn't enough. But was it still louder than stock?

This.^ Best mod for the buck on the GT. Sounds similar to the Borla S type for a fraction of the cost. Resonator delete is a must for the GT500 A/B to shine.

Yes, without resonator delete it's louder than stock but still needs more. It's not obnoxious at all deleting the resonators. Sounds the way a Mustang should. You'll be 100% satisfied. You'll be like my man Steven making 2 trips if you don't.

I've got both Kooks axlebacks and GT500 axlebacks, as well as an o/r X pipe. Will be doing some experimenting come spring.

Kooks after install, Not broken in yet:

I have the GT500 exhaust (no resonator delete) and a Steeda CAI and so far, I am liking the sound... When I get on it, it roars! And it sounds good accelerating around town and such. I *would* like to hear one with the resonator delete (in person) before going that route... I am sure it sounds good, but so far I am happy with how it is in the meantime...

Sounds good on start up and decent on drive off, idle rev sounds a little shallow. Not bad overall, but not the best
