Going after old 5.0 sound

I still love the old 5.0 sound and I've had an exhaust shop do this for me to try and recreate the acoustics of the old cars. My theory is that the length of pipe before and after the mufflers is the key element. My car does now have that airy drone if the fox bodies although very exaggerated at 2k RPM. I am happy with it. According to Gibson, the muffler flows plenty for my application. The guy I talked to said he had one on a 700HP sand dragged

Its different, would love to hear what it sounds like. You'll have a hard time getting the same sound out of these Modular 5.0's.

Would also love to hear this, however I think the issue you will run into is that in no way can the harmonics of the new 5.0 be anywhere close to the old.

Unique...I'd sure like to hear this, too. I like the modular V8 sound on my GT500s, mixing a bit of rumble with and addictive howl up high. You just won't match wedge-head inline valve pushrod sound in a quad cam semi hemi 32v V8.

So what is the point of this thread when you only post a description and PICTURE?

It rained the whole day I posted this but wanted to see what you guys thought of the concept. Wasn't happy with the sound clips I got today and thought, what's the point of posting bad sound clips. I'll try to get some decent ones tomorrow

I am no 4.6 fan but the x-pipe, catless, flowmaster 99-04 2 valve GT's are my all time favorite Mustang sound. You know what it is blocks away before you see it. Love those cars but disliked the engine.

Had that exact setup on my 04 GT, sounded good but soooo much drone.

yeah, removing the rear mufflers, and putting one in the midpipe will definitely give it an old school sound.

I'm glad someone is finally doing this. I would probably do two bullet type mufflers before the axles instead. A standard Hpipe somewhere midways (not a X). The tailpipes over the axles back should give you that sound you're looking for. Just remember that motor and valve system will always sound a little different but still be a great improvement. Can't wait to see how it goes. I don't particularly like the single muffler idea just due to the sound you're looking for. Two mufflers and a Hpipe would be ideal.

This, plus usually people to fly by's or romp on it a little, to me that sounded completely like a new 5.0

It sounds deep in the low rpm range but you can still hear that high pitch 5.0 tone slightly. Hearing it at about 5 to 6k rpms will tell the story.

That also makes a good point, unless you have some serious work done an old 5.0 won't go that high.

I want to hear his car at 5-6K rpms. That's when the new mustang seperates itself from it's predecessors sound wise. The new one has a refined sound to match a refined car. The old 5.0 sounds good at any RPM range

Yep, sounds like all the other Coyotes, I guess I love to side step the main stream. LOL
Wish I would have stayed in the gas a little longer on that one pass
