Get GT500 Axle Back install from dealer?
Just received my VIN for my GT and checking with my dealer if they can get the GT500 Axle Backs from Ford and install when car arrives. Not sure if anyone else has done this or any suggestions would be appreciated.

Buy them from latemodelrestoration or someplace like that and just have the dealer put them on or do it yourself, it is super easy and takes 30 minutes. I inquired about having the dealer buy and install them and the quote was over $600 and they are a good dealer. I got them from LMR for something like $269 shipped and did it myself.

im assuming you are getting a 2013? in this case it will be harder than you think. You would have to possibly buy a new rear GT500 bumper and bottom GT500 defuser, and with cost of all those and labor, you will probably looking for at about $3,000 with parts and labor. There is a slight chance that the 2013 GT500 defuser will work on a GT, but will need to be some lower bumper cutting and modifying in order to make it happen.
Ill be trying this soon i hope.

You can swap the 2011 GT500 mufflers onto a 2013 GT without changing any body panels. If you want the 2013 GT500 mufflers, you'll need to swap the diffuser (if you have a CS or Boss) new mufflers, and the fascia if a base/premium GT.

Ahhh. Didn't know the 2013 GT500 mufflers wouldn't fit 2013 GT. Yeah not changing comestics just yet if ever. Guess I need to make sure the dealer knows to look at 2011.

And OP, he's referring to the 2011/12 GT500 AB's Overboost quoted below.
Don't bother having dealer install them. I always am leary about other people/shops (no matter how trustworthy they are) work on any of my cars. Why? Because they don't have the care/love (nor should they) for my car as I do. So, cars are more prone to scratches/scrapes, etc.... from tools, equipment, mufflers, etc as they work on the car. You know what I mean? I'm just too **** about stuff like that I guess. I've had experiences (friends and family as well) from cars in the past at dealers and shops, who were known to do GOOD work (which they do, for the intended purpose). But hey, it's your car, you can do what you want.
In retrospect, the Axleback install was a piece of cake. Just takes some time, depending on how slow/careful you are, but definitely doable via jackstands and some simple tools, and some elbow grease. It's good "1 on 1" time with you and your car. I installed mine 60 miles into her odometer. Loved my GT500 AB's ever since.

You're right. Even if the shop IS good, things happen. If you do it, you only have yourself to blame. I used to work at a high end audio shop. I've worked on Bentleys, Ferraris, Lamborghinis etc. It was rare, but small incidents happened every once in a while. Of course we took care of them, but they DO happen.
Cases in point:
Before, the shop guys would leave scratches on my console from their watches on my console, fingernail scratches in door pockets from opening doors, brake scuffs from removing rims from car, etc.... these were all done to my other cars I have owned. So I know things happen. I just try to reduce the risk The shop guys don't do it on purpose, it's just that they don't think about it enough or care about it enough to take the extra time to be careful as I/we do.

It wasn't complicated...just frustrating to get everything to line up.
It took me about an hour for each side, all said and done and my knuckles were pretty well skinned.
If the dealer would have done it for an hour's worth of labor charge, it would have been worth it.

My dealer wants to charge 1 1/2 labor total wiith tax $144.00. This sound ok?

I'd call a reputable muffler shop. I bet they would do it for 1/2 the price.
