Ford Racing Tune pinging
Actually you don't need to take your car back to the dealer when you need to adjust settings on the pro-cal. If you do, you will not void warranty. If the tech service center is so great you wouldn't need to do this every time you heard pinging occur. That would be my excuse for just doing it myself. Plus logging everything they do is almost impossible. So even the tech service center wouldn't have any idea what the last setting even was until they plug it in.
Just got off the phone with Ford Racing about the detonation (pinging) issue with the Ford Racing Procal tune on the 2014 GT. He said it's because oil vapors from the PCV system lower the fuel octane. They officially recommend the JLT oil separator to eliminate the issue. From what I've read, it works well. Rumors about oil leaking from the separator begin at the install area. Hoses should exit the separator joints straight, not bending. Bending hoses put bending forces on the fittings causing them to leak.

Been running bama tunes for years successfully and so have many others.
No complaints, the car makes the power and puts the numbers up.
You know you can always call bama and data log right? get your moneys worth.
I know I did.

I have had the Ford racing tune in my 2014 5.0 for a few months now. Drive-ability improved and it has much more torque in the lower rpms. The only problem I am having is this pinging at mid range rpms, I don't feel comfortable flooring it. I called ford racing and I was not pleased with their service. They told me some pinging is normal, I can try a catch can to get rid of it. I highly doubt a catch will eliminate the pinging. I am really thinking of getting a tune from bama or similar, only reason I went with ford racing was because of their warranty. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

But again, if you are only putting 91 in there and if it's a mediocre 91 at that. Without an oil separator, it will ping for sure. Get the separator and put a quality 91 in there, it will be fine.
Actually an oil separator will eliminate the pinging. With oil vapors recirculating into the intake, it lowers the octane level. Since the tune has aggressive timing, even running 93 if lowered from oil vapor will cause detonation. Put on a bobs separator, problem solved.
Good luck to the OP and let us know how you made out.
