Ford changes Oil Spec: 2011 to 21014 GT
While reading and old Car and Driver Mag, on a Long Term Wrap-up of a 2013 GT, I came across this statement:"While we slept, Ford changed the oil specification for Track-pack GTs from a 5W-20 synthetic blend to a pricier 5W-50 full-synthetic."
Has anyone changed to the 5W-50W? Observations please.

I have a '14 GT TP, and the factory oil in it was still 5w-20. Been running full synthetic 5W-50 ever since the first oil change.
The reason for the change is because the newer TP cars come with a Boss oil cooler, and the increased oil film thickness for sustained high RPM operation.

Not sure what mine came with from the factory.
I changed it out at 1,500 miles.
Mine holds just over 9 qt. with filter.
I have been running motorcraft 5-50w full syn.
I get a deal on it from my local ford dealer $85 for 10 qts with filter.

Did somebody do a viscosity test on the oil?
All other Mustang models (except Shelby models) specify 5w20.
So your spec would be 5w20.
Then you either don't have a Track Pack or somebody replaced the oil cap at some point with a regular, non-Track Pack cap.
Lots of confusion still, about the Track Pack option, it seems.
It was an option only on the '13-'14 GT's, and it included the Brembo front brakes, 19" Brembo-style wheels/tires, the Boss302 oil cooler, fully painted Boss302 rear axle with 3.73 gears and the Torsen diff, Boss302 radiator, specific front brake pads and specific AdvanceTrac calibration. It also spec'd 5w50 full synthetic oil.
The Brembo option that was available '11-'14 included front Brembo brakes and 19" wheels/tires. It spec'd the regular semi-synthetic 5w20 oil.
There was some weird Track option available on the 2010 cars.
It is NOT the same Track Pack as the '13-'14 Track Pack.

I seem to remember some people on here receiving their TP 13-14 cars with 5W-20 oil caps, now that I think about it. It jogged my memory and I think there were a few people on TMS that has the wrong cap when they picked up their cars.

To top all of this off the Track pack cars need Ford specification WSS-M2C931-B now-C. Most oil companies do not make it.
I called a few companies and they are not willing to make this oil. It has to many additives and not enough performance cars need it.

Amsoil makes a 5w50 now that meets that spec
