What's up with that? Mine are slowly turning more and more gold.

I've polished them a few times, but I need to do it again to see if the gold discoloring is in the metal or just some form of tarnishing.

Pics coming soon.

Single wall tips? Heat will typically turn Stainless Gold. Nothing unusual there. Doesn't happen on my Double wall Basanni's but the outside of the tips run cooler because of the construction style..

Mine are same as new and the car has 1730 miles on it after installing the Hushpower at 135 miles, the car is 9 months old. I've never driven the car in rain or snow. The car is in storage most of the time.

Its not a huge deal, just was curious what was up. I might replace the tips some day, or if I ever get the bug to switch exhaust setups.

Hopefully one day someone replicates the boss sidepipe kit.

Did you get the Hushpower bolt-on axle-back, or did a shop simply install mufflers and tips? The HP tips on my bolt-on are double-walled, and haven't discolored from the heat at all, after 4000 miles. Any single-wall stainless tip is going to turn gold/tan from the heat, just like Harley pipes turn gold/blue, but I have yet to see it on any double-wall tip.

I have the axleback. I know the tips are at least rolled, I'll check to see if they're double walled as well.

I know that on motorcycles without a cosmetic heat shield or double-walled tubing, the pipes will turn blue or gold due to extreme heat near the exhaust port.

JMHO, but your tailpipes should not be hot enough to turn either stainless or chromed units gold. Is there an exhaust leak or obstruction that could cause the muffler to run hot?

That said, we pre-Hinkley Triumph riders used a somewhat abrasive substance called "Blue-Away" to remove the yellowing, followed that up with a good Semichrome Polish rubdown.

The exhaust that is. Christ my uncle has a 2010 540rh and his roush muffler deletes with 4 inch tips are already rusting at the welds.

I have 8,800 miles on mine, still look like new - never polished them. I also don't think they would not get hot enough back there to get discolored. Chrome headers on motorcycles only discolor for a few feet at the most. My guess the discoloration is due to the polishing product applied.
