finally lowered my mustang!
finally lowered my mustang!
hi everyone!
when I first got my car I thought I was not into lowering it at all. but as time passed, these wheel gaps of my brembo car really started to bother me, especially when looked at from certain angles.
so I spent many thoughts how I should lower my car. the choice was basically between weitec lowering springs or KW coil overs. you guys always have to consider that here in europe, where the mustang is an exotic, there's not so many parts to choose from than there is in the US.
well I then decided to "do it right" in the first place and went with the KW variant 3 coilovers. I am not tracking the car and don't like it too low, but still want to have some comfort while improving looks and performance (body roll, nose dive...) too.
now I have to say I'm quite happy with the current setup. the car feels more planted now, behaves better in turns, also at higher speeds, but is still comfortable to drive.
However, the down side ist hat there’s a noticavle „swoosh noise“ from the rear axle. The higher the speed, the louder it gets. Have any of you experienced something similar with coil overs?
here are some pics, let me know what you guys think about the stance now.

Hey!!! It's a clone of my car when it looked pseudo stock!
Looks really good. Nice job. I'm surprised you waited this long for that fender gap to bother you. That gap bothered me from day one. My lowering happened within a couple months of owning the car. Ahhhh, memories. Seemed so long ago.

thanks guys for the kind feedback!
these pictures are now of course with the winter tires, I think it will look even better with the summer tires on my other rims. will also make some pics in spring.
@ fromZto5: haha yeah I know what you mean. I'm also surprised how many kona/brembo cars there are in this forum
by the way: do you think it would make sense to install rear lower control arms as the next mod? will this improve my traction even more?

Looks great. Excellent choice on the KW V3's. Those are excellent coilovers.
The more lowered cars I see the more I want to pull the trigger on Koni Yellows for my car and get my suspension stuff installed!
Enjoy the Swiss roads. It's a beautiful country. I drove from Geneva to Zermatt a couple years ago for vacation - some amazing roads and amazing countryside. Would love to get back there someday.

Thanks a lot! I also think my country is beautiful, even though it's really tiny

in some situations, the mustang turns out to be quite a big car for here. this is noticeable in some parking garages or narrow roads in mountain villages.
I can vouch for our cars being rather large for some of the parking garages. I end up doing 20 point turns to get in and out of spaces. Your car looks great with the drop. I'm looking forward to dropping mine as well. Oh and I live in Bavaria.
Rear lower control arms will help in the traction dept, just remember to get relocation brackets along with the LCA's. I put LCA's on my car before I lowered it and saw a noticeable gain in traction, but as soon as I put lowering springs in it changed the geometry of the rear suspension enough that I couldn't get the car to hook to save my life, I then installed a set of BMR relocation brackets and went with the center hole as suggested for moderately lowered cars and now it hooks up like it did before getting dropped.

I have done some research too in the meantime and now I know what my next mods will be. lower control arms, relocation brackets and upper control arm. I guess I will order everything from steeda because I believe they are quality products? I definitely want to buy american made anyway.
If it isn't too late, I would go with BMR for the whole package, they have the best suspension stuff out there by far. Just message Jay from hypermotive and he will take great care of you, he's who I go to for just about everything now.
thanks a lot for the advice lee! will definitely consider it, however I doubt hypermotive will ship to switzerland...
