I just scored some Roush axel backs for my 2011 V6 at a steal. I was originally planning to go with the Force Flowmasters but this was too good of deal to pass up. The Roush sound has grown on me. I have heard mixed reviews about both axel back systems.

I need help deciding what to do with the mufflers I just picked up. I like the sound of the Roush mufflers but I cant stand the chrome tips. That was one of the reasons why I wanted the Flows. The tips look amazing.

My options are:

1. Keep the Roush Mufflers but change out the clamp on tips. What size of tips? Where do I look? I want something that sticks out a bit with a fat rolled lip.

2. Sell the axel back system to a fellow member and pinch some extra pennies until I can swing the Flows.

Any advice is appreciated.

They aren't even cleaned up.

My factory mufflers are 20 times worse cosmetically.

I was pricing exhaust tips on jegs.com and I'm not sure I want to spend any more money.

These are going to classified or the Bay. PM me if interested.

big mistake trading these for the flows just because of chrome. You'll regret it. Flows sound like stock but a bit louder and they sound like a popcorn machine.

Why not keep them and adjust the tips to stick out? How big of tips do you want? Any bigger and you are getting into ricer fart can territory!

In talking with my local muffler shop, he told me the Roush mufflers are "cosmetic", in that there is no "muffling" about them. He said if that type of sound is what your after, just buy the straight pipe axle backs. He actually opened a set up that were damaged in a rear collision. The pipe goes straight through the round faux muffler can.

And I can attest that they are obnoxious loud. Bought a used set from this site last year. Had them on for less then an hour before removing them and going back to stock. Now I have a set of the GT500's. Very happy with them.

I'm beginning to think that Roush axe backs are like fruit cake; only a few were made, and they get passed from person to person.

They don't sound as bad as I thought in videos that I looked up. However, I heard a set in person and it was LOUD. The guy had a tune and CAI though. I'm not sure if that is why?

My wife heard the clips on the Internet and immediately said "remember we have neighbors" Ugggh!

Mopar how do you like yours so far?

It's not the length of the tips, it's the design and size. The diameter is huge. I want a cherry bomb design or cookie cutter. I'm really picky about the tips and the roush tips look somewhat euro.

I have been pricing chrome tips but for what I can get for selling the roush system and not spending on the tips, I could just get the flow masters??

It is not a faux muffler, it is a resonator and it actually does muffle the sound quite a bit. Ford uses resonators on the GT500s CAI to kill the supercharger whine as well. That's why I don't trust "local" shops most of the time, hard to find one that has any idea what they are talking about.

They are loud and alot of people want that, I would hate for you to ride in my Roush with LTs and Off Roads LOL! The GT500s do sound good as well, and are the best bang for the buck, enjoy yours.

The gentleman I acquired the system from was older/military man. He told me that the exhaust is quite loud and that he is "too old for that angry sound."

Call me crazy, but my gripe about them is more cosmetic. The mufflers are shiny as hell! The flow masters blend in because they are painted black.

Just me but I don't want to draw attention to the under carriage. Mufflers that peek out of the rear end have been my gripe since 2005.

OK, I totally thought you wanted even bigger.

In that case sell them and get what you want or you won't be happy.

I'm going to clean them up and pass the savings to a fellow member. Secretly, I'm always going to wonder what they could have sounded like.

Contrary to popular belief, I've heard more GOOD things than negative things about the roush system.

They are great but not for old guys like me

Yep these mufflers just look like a piece of Swiss cheese. Full of holes and rust. Lol hardly...they look fantastic.

Theyre not THAT loud. I feel like everyone on this site whining that theyre loud are old or are pansies. Theyre quieter than your typical ricers, they can be 100% quiet when just cruising but then you give it gas and your hear thay gurgle and pop and I love it. No it does not sound like a honda or a 370z, it sounds beefy and like a muscle car. I have a cai to go with it and together they sound great.

Build quality is superb and it was an easy plug n play install. There is very little drone at 60-63 in 6th gear but then thats it. going 90 in 6th and theyre quiet with 3.31s. People choose the flows over roush because theyre so quiet and the pops are barely there.

It sounds muuuuich deeper than any video youll hear too. They can be very loud when you get on it though.

These dont peek out, I have the square tips on em(were more obviously) and they go flush with the whole design of the car, you can never see the exhaust unless you pretty much get down there and take a look.

Well I guess it was meant to be. I instantly sold the roush mufflers for twice what I paid for them. So stoked!

I'm a little closer to buying my Flowmasters!

You're first sentence mentions they are not loud. You're last one states they can be very loud.

Your last sentence is correct. They are very loud. And to me, they blend in with the ricers/Honda crowd.

So many other options to pick from that sound much better. Just my 2 cents worth. Yes I'm old, but by far no pansy; just wiser.
