Powdercoat would be at least 100 a piece. I can paint them myself for 60-80 bucks total. Not being cheap, just rather put the other 300+ towards new rims.

 

Or a vortech.

 

I pay $75 each and they'll last 10x longer and youd have no problem getting decent $ back on them when you sell. Self-painted, weird color on chipped rims not so much. Just an idea.

 

I've painted rims before. And I am very familiar with this paint. To me powercoating these rims is a waste of money I could spend somewhere else. And I have no intentions on selling them. As I stated eairler I have seen this paint stand up to years of rallycross abuse. For a car I put 6000 miles a year or so on they would last an eternity.

 

paint is still wet. its a little cool here tonight so i am going to let them set over night and clear them in the morning.

Looking good. Make sure you don't rush it - maybe let them cure indoors / or in warmer temps for a few days?

 

Seems to me the instructions on modern rattle cans say something like "Do second and subsequent coats within two hours or after forty-eight hours"?

 

That is three coats. Applied every 45 min. The clear coat need to be applied after the paint has set for a while.

 

Yeah. My car is broke down till my crate motor gets here. So no rush. Taking my time with it.

 

As of this morning. Not quite ready for the clear coat. I'll let them set for 24 hours and come back to them tommrow.

Nice job,if done correctly with the right paint and clear you should have no chipping problems or any other problems.Definetly looks better than i expected!!

 

Paint is acrylic enamel. wheels were sanded with 300 then 180 and I used Bullydog adhesion promoter. It should last the life of the car.

 

I'm thinking of doing this in more of a flat bronze on my14 GHIG!

 

DO NOT use the duplicolor broze wheel coat. It will ruin your wheels. Make them look like dried baby turds.
