You get higher flow out of them, but remember, they require a tune or it will throw a code.

 

new to modding here so what are cat deletes?

 

cat deletes are pipes that go in place of where your catalytic converters go that have bungs welded in so you can still have your O-2 sensors in the exhaust. This in turn is much less restrictive thus freeing up HP, and makes the car a bit louder. When you delete the cats you have to have your tune adjusted to compensate for the change in back pressure ( I believe) and have your O-2 sensors turned off so the computer doesn't give off a fault code.

 

A tune doesn't compensate for any changes in back pressure. It will do two things. Turn off the rear o2's which monitor the cats and also on these newer cars will turn off the COT feature. Nothing more.

Isn't it against the law to remove the cats and if you are found out, aren't there big fines involved? I thought the cats on most new vehicles were pretty free flowing and that you don't see much power increase by removing them.

It is against the law in MA. You can get high flowing cats aftermarket as well.
Plus, like you said, it doesn't free up a ton of horsepower.

I thought I read some where that you could gain in the neighborhood of 15 HP with a off road X-pipe with cat deletes, Is this true?

I was thinking of doing this myself (actually bought them already) in your opinion (for those that have done the cat delete) are they worth it? do you get drone?

 

I have a convertible with the quad gt500 exhaust. I decided to remove the cat's using the jegs delete pipes. Fit was good, although we had to adjust the driver side to get rid of an exhaust leak.
Now, at first I thought they were too loud and the fumes were a little strong. Well, I guess the fumes killed some brain cells because now I love to hear them. And I no longer get an strong odor. There is some but not overpowering.
In the vert, it is loud during hard acceleration but tame when cruising.
People have their own opinion with and HP/TQ gains. But it seems more responsive since they were removed.

 

yea i just got my steeda cat deletes installed and there is definitely something about the drivers side that doesn't allow aftermarket pipes to connect to the h pipe correctly. after using permatex and adjusting the clamp while the car was running theres still a very slight exhaust leak on the driver's side with the permatex being fresh. the passenger side doesn't leak however.

 

The odor were talking about is fuel, I'm gonna guess, how bad is it? I start my car in a garage so the engine builds some heat before I leave, would this be bad? Is it syringe bought that idling for 2-3 minutes will cause me unintentionally commit suicide?
Or is is just a bit stronger than stock?
I noticed a bit of a fuel smell just going with a Steeda 93 octane tune, on guessing this will be more than that?
Or since the cats aren't doing anything anyways till they warm up the initial start up is not gonna make too much of a difference?
