Boss Intake on a Daily, worth the money?
My GT is my daily, I found a Boss intake pretty cheap and want to pick it up. I am now hearing that its not worth it, so you guys WITH one, would you recommend one or save the money?

I had the same concerns, would it be worth it for a DD with an occasional highway run. I decided yes and I will get one someday but just not right away.

Exactly, itll be a 80% tame street driven car, 15% on a track, 5% on the street. For the price of $300 I found I am almost to the point of pulling the trigger. I hope to be running N20 sooner then later, but I want to see some nitrous tunes with some miles/passes before I am the test mule...

By itself it's a paper weight. You'll need a cold air intake, at least 3.73 gears, at least an offroad midpipe and a custom tune to get the most out of the Boss intake. Plus, you need to be driving 5000RPM and higher all the time. I've been adding items to mine step by step, and the BOSS intake, cold air and canned tune was useless, with a custom tune started getting better. Added an offroad h-pipe and retuned, and it's enjoyable at high rpm. I still need my stock 3.31 gears upgraded to get up the power band quicker, but I it's pretty darn quick now.

A local dealer has one laying around, I dont think they are quite sure what it is...
And a SCT/JLT/X-Pipe are all on my list...Car has 3.73...and winter I am looking for some LTs. The Boss wont go on until I get my FINAL tune...

I actually am enjoying the Boss intake on my daily driver. I do plan on taking my car to the track sooner or later, but for now with CAI, intake, and tune I can definitely tell a difference from stock. I have put about 4500 miles on that setup and had no problems, about 5200 total on the car since June 8. I have the redline set to 7k at the moment, cause still not too sure about the stock internals at higher RPMs. With the current 3.55s i have no problem getting into the powerband quickly. Since I plan on going twin turbo at some point I figure I will stick with those gears.

I think it's a nice intake but I would not go with it unless I was also doing a Centri blower.I made the same or better HP/TQ with stock intake,CAI,exhaust 406/390tq

I'm going to end up with a remote mounted twin turbo system, but I plan on replacing the internals before that so it will be a while. If I had planned to go with a SC other than a Centri I wouldn't have even considered it.

That turbo should be killer on the 5.0
I think the main thing with the Boss intake is taking advantage of the high rpm design.
If I were building a N/A motor with say Boss camshafts etc I would go for this intake.
It seems a lot of people are going for the cool factor and then after dyno wonder what happened to the TQ

In the August 5.0 Mustang and Super Fords magazine on page 24 they state there are already more Boss intakes on new GTs than factory intakes. Ford must be makin a killin on it's plastic box. A guy in our club has one and he said he can't tell any difference in daily driving but much faster above 5200 at the track. When you race your gonna be above 5000 anyway. I am shifting at 7300 to 7400 and hitting 2nd and 3rd above 6000 rpm so I may try one out...

The Boss intakes are getting cheaper. I have found them new for under 400.00 on Google Shopping - sans hardware - 360.00 to 399.00. I think some guys are making their own hoses up.
Brenspeed recommended I pass on the Boss intake for my setup and needs unless I need the eye candy.

I sent Steve Turner an email .....

If I found one for $300.00, I'd buy it whether I intended to put it on the car right now or not......BTW...I wouldn't put it on my car.......I'm sure there will be intakes developed that the Boss guys will (or should I say "may") upgrade to eventually that will benefit the car in a wider range of rpms...

For DD probably shouldn't do it in since unless you drive like a maniac or just like cruising at 5000+ RPM (LOL imagine someone doing that with exhaust)
