Anyone gone supercharged and regretted it?

I am currently N/A, in the future I am considering going s/c. However I am reading stories of anything above 600bhp being too much for the s197 chassis. I have no interest in drag racing or straight lines. I mainly want a very fast and handling road car.

What are your thoughts?

There are plenty of S197 cars running around with well over 600bhp and no chassis issues. The 13/14 gt500 was over 600hp as well. All that being said you should have no chassis issues. If you road race my biggest concern would be the type of supercharger. You won't regret going forced induction.

I traded my 13' GT (CAI, Tune, Suspension) for a 12' Roush RS3. Shortly after I got the car I had VMP's phase 3 kit installed which claims it bumps the crank HP to 675 (Stock was 540 from ROUSH). The car now pulls like a freight train and my main complaint is the total loss of WOT traction until 5th gear. I took a buddy of mine for a ride after the VMP install and he stated the car's acceleration feels just like his street bike. I have the Cooper RS3 tires and am planning to replace them with some wider Continental DWS's (All Seasons) next spring as I drive my car all year as weather permits (no snow driving). I can honestly say that having a SC car is nice, but the power is scary sometimes. I have yet to turn the traction control completely off. I honestly don't have to even get into the boost most days because the 5.0 is already enough power, but punching the throttle at 55 mph and have the backend break loose and get squirrely sure does put a smile on my face after my sphincter unpuckers. I have not had 1 person mess with me since I got the car which seemed to be almost a daily occurrence with my 13'

My only regret is underestimating the budget for rear tires lol. My car has about 2200 miles on it and will need new rears before I hit 5000 hahahaa

I love my vmp kit so much Im buying a newer mustang to put the kit back on. Going from 600whp down to 360s sucks. Not to bash the stock guys but I can't live without a SC.

Forced induction is very satisfying. My ‘14 GT has the modest Roush phase 2 kit with a 91 octane aftermarket tune. 12,000+ trouble free miles so far and no regrets.

The chassis will hold up fine. There are people making over 800HP at the crank and over 600TQ at the crank. No worries about the chassis. If you are worried, I suggest looking into BMR products.
Once you get a supercharger,.........there's no looking back at all.

Have to say yes, given this event. Things go wrong fast at 600+

Not such an urge to modify my '14 this way, having barely survived the last attempt. Sold the blower kit to someone else for about the money I had in it.

Thank goodness that nobody was seriously injured or worse, especially yourself as cars can always be replaced, but human lives cannot.. What matters most, is that your okay and still here with us

Build the suspension and get some real tires BEFORE putting the blower on.

The stock suspension is barely adequate for 360ish rwhp as they come stock, when you add 200+ rwhp, things can get "fun"
And the stock tires plain suck.

That being said, I love being supercharged.
The pull, the push into the seat, the whine from the blower, the way your side vision becomes blurry , ..... yeah ... it's fun being blown

Don't assume I didn't. The car was BBP to start with and I'd gone through the whole rear suspension with poly everything and improved components. Premium tires, too.

I just f&cked up. It was totally my fault. It's extremely easy with that level of power from FI. No one else was around and no other vehicles were involved, fortunately.

All that said, I've always been a lucky SOB when it really counts. The Golden BB has just missed me many times in my 50 years on this planet. It's weird. I did end up with a better car out of the deal (auto + all the same options I had before and two years newer) and a good reminder about what matters, family, friends and love.

Those pics are incredible. Thanks for sharing the dark side of the blower. I can see how it could get away from you. Heck my stock 5.0 is plenty scary. Glad to see you are ok and have a good perspective on what is important.

Here's my latest plan:

I think the ~450 FWHP I've got out of a really stout tune on my auto is quite good for road duty and has awesome driveability. Custom tuning the blower was a *****. Chasing ghost knock, potential vac leaks, blowing intake pipes off and, when I'm finally there, after 30+ datalogs and 7 or-8 tune revisions, wreck city.

I think I might just throw the bottle in the back with a simple 100 shot/N20 tune for my trips to the strip and call it done.

I've used every power adder under the sun on multiple vehicles so, I kinda know what I'm signing up for, no matter what I do.

Have VMP Gen2 Stg3 kit went E85 added new fuel system. Could not be happier would never go back. Remember NO tires other than drags will really hold the power. Anything less the 285-295 is pointless. Only beat on it at the strip and you will be fine. I am hoping for 680-700 rwhp on mine with the new fuel system and new OPG.

I also have a VMP tune. I as well could not be happier. I had the Roush tune on my Phase 1 kit, then contacted Justin Starkey and he was great. He is the real deal.

I know this is a S550 Mustang, but check this video out. Pump gas, drag radials, Gen 2 VMP Supercharger, 82 mm pulley and Gibson cat back. Only 10 lbs. of boost. That's f**king silly. 82 mm pulley and pump gas. In the 9's!! LOL (I think he and Roush are the ones that use the millimeters on their pulleys.)
He does killer work for VMP, obviously, and Roush supercharged cars.
