Adjusting gaps

Sorry if this is a dupe and I don't think it's in the manual. I noticed that the bottom of my trunk lid on the drivers side was a little high and not aligning with the body. Also the front passenger side of the hood near the headlight had a bigger gap than the drivers side. On a white car, they are more noticeable.

I found that I could turn the rubber stoppers on the trunk lid and in the engine compartment where the hood closes. Turning these, (clockwise they get smaller) I was able to align the trunk lid and adjust the hood gap. All is good now.

I'm not a body guy, but it seems wrong that those stops should be used for alignments (would they actually warp the hood/trunk over time?) - I always presumed they were for light support & sound deadening, but now I'm wondering if that's what they're actually for.

Body techs - UNITE!!!! - and answer, please.

NOTHING wrong with doing this, as long as the entire gap lines up.
