F150 has a very tall tire. That's why you can use a taller gear than you can in our Mustangs.

No look I'm looking at 3rd 4th and 5th gears here not first and second gear. I spend a lot of time in 3rd and 4th on some of these canyon roads and I don't like how 3rd gear takes awhile to wind out. I might drag race once a year just to try it but I don't care about 60 ft or 1/8th mile times. With the logic you guys are using why not put a 3.15 in a manual? I know the manual is geared dufferent but my point us why not put lower numerucal gears in a manual whats the duffwrance other than really first gear. A 3.73 geared auto in 3rd gear is equivalent to a 3.31 geared manual. Same with 4th gear.

Dude it's become quite apparent from your posts you haven't a clue with what you're talking about. And you keep coming up with random numbers that aren't even accurate. I am telling from first hand experience gears will do zip for you. It may not be what you want to hear but in the end it's the truth.

I don't know what I'm talking about?!?!

3rd gear in an auto is a 1.52 right grabber? OK now multiply that by 3.73.....what do you get grabber?
5.67 now divide this number by the manuals 3rd gear which is 1.69 got this so far grabber? I'll wait.................what did you get? 3.35 since there isn't a 3.35 rear axle gear for an 8.8 it would be like a 3.31. I won't bore you with 4th so don't %#$in tell me I don't know what I'm talking about. You know i see you on other forums trolling telling everyone what to do like your the expert

I'd like to thank all the others on this post for their opinions WITHOUT name calling or insults. As for grabber 5.0 you can give advice without insults. I'm goin with 3.73s because it's going to fit what type of driving I do which isn't a 1/4 mile at a time. And if you did the math and compared to the manual (I've driven a 3.73 manual) that's what I am doing. It's not random numbers. An auto won't ever feel like a manual but with my selectshift it's still pretty fun and having shorter gears in driving THAT I DO it will be better since most of my fun driving is in 3rd and 4th.

fahvzero a lot of people on forums relate gears and other after market parts to the drag strip its all about times so you have to forgive them you want get a lot of feedback about real world highway/street driving as for gears doing nothing for the track maybe I don't know but for the street you will feel a difference in the car I had 4.10,s for about a year they were ok but I like the 3.55,s a lot better lower highway rpm,s and your not shifting all the time but do what you feel and keep us up to date

Hey momo it's cool I understand why most of us mustang drivers like the drag strip while the live rear axle isn't the best for road course it's awesome for drag racing. I got koni adjustable yellows and FRPP 1.5" K springs all around so the car handles awesome

When are you having them installed? I'm interested in the results.
I have a GT automatic, with a tune, and in my experience 1st to 2nd and 2nd to third gear shifts can already be "interesting " on the Northern Californian roads. 4:56's could make these gears completely useless. But we'll never know unless someone tries it.

uhm. I have kept quiet on this.........until now. This will be an epic fail. Way too steep, even for the kind of driving you do.

I kid I got the FRPP 3.73s. Since I'm staying N/A I only have a couple of mods left before the car is finished. Lighter rims maybe a driveshaft then full exhaust maybe the Kooks system since it has the quad exhaust. After that I'll be happy

I hated my 4.10,s I tried to make my self like them but it didn't work now that I got 3.55,s for street driving I love the gears and my car again my car feels faster with the 3.55,s then the 4.10,s. keep your stock gears and get a converter or contact mike rousch or bama for a tune
