On a recent long road trip, I cruised almost constantly at 70 MPH in my manual 11 GT coupe on flat highway. Averaged right at 26 MPG both directions. That's with 3.31 gears.

Haven't really done any testing under other conditions, but I know when I am driving playfully, the MPG drops to around the same as an M1A1 Abrams.

with the average MPG displayed, hit the "reset" button -- it will go to zero and start recalculating from there

I've read in other posts that you also need to reset the average speed and total miles? But I don't think that is really needed -- I have checked my computer several times against calculated MPG and it is very close, witout resetting average speed or miles

Mileage

I have 3.55s. Just over 900 miles on it now. First two tanks were ~14 mpg but was almost all city driving and quite spirited. Took a trip from DC to Newport News and back. I spent some time in 6th doing 80 mph at about 2200 rpm but periodically dropped it into 5th and ran it up to 100 mph to vary the rpms. Even with the 100 mph sprints and a 75-80 mph average, I managed ~21-22 mpg on the trip. Combined total average mpg at 900 miles is 15.930. I'm told by folks here on the boards that fuel economy gets better over time. I hope so.

So, just got back from a 1200 mile trip to Canada.

Again, I have 3.73 rear end, 5.0, 6 speed, coupe. No hot-rodding what so ever, never once went beyond 1/2 throttle.

My first fill up, I came out to 27 mpg. Now, at this point, I was ecstatic. It was so crazy seeing those kinds of numbers, when with my 3.31 2008 GT, I struggled for 23 on this very same trip.

My second fill up..get this..29 mpg! At this point I was floored. Overall, 600 miles to and 600 miles coming back..I averaged 27.3 mpg. I had a 26 mpg fill up on the way home because I was goosing it a bit on the last leg of the trip, eager to get in the bed!

Extremely satisfied.

I can't wait to get over this initial "heavy foot" issue so I can partake in those numbers! I really want to see this happen.

What was your average MPH? Cause I have reset the MPG estimate computer when I was @ 1500 RPMs in 6th and it told me I was averaging around 28MPG, but I will never go 50MPH on the interstate... I wonder what the difference between 3.31s and 3.73s is when averaging between 75-80MPH on the interstate? That would be interesting, as I assume we all go arounf that speed on trips.

Awesome! I drive under those conditions a lot of times and my current 03 GT gets 17 mph so yeah

I was driving on the interstate in MD, PA, NY and finally Canada. In the states, I was setting cruise (via GPS MPH figure) at 59 MPH on 55 MPH roads, and 69 MPH on 65 MPH roads.

In Canada, where the speed limit on the interstate was 100 KMH (62 MPH) I was actually usually setting myself at around 120 KMH (75 MPH), which was the flow of traffic there.

I achieved the 27 MPG figure with the AC on the entire tank of gas. I achieved the 29 MPG figure with the windows down all but 1 hour of the tank of gas, which I had the AC on.

With the windows down and 60 MPH, 30+ MPG seems easily attainable.

My worse tank was 20 mpg when I was seating the rings on the breakin tank. Since then I have gotten up to 25 mpg City when I really work at it. I have been averaging 22-23 mpg in town. Make sure you do the Math (Miles divided by Gallons) as the Info Center reads low (7% in my case),

You will never get fuel mileage if you dont keep the rpm down. Take off in 2nd, 2-3 at 1375 rpm (or skip shift from 2-4 at 2000 rpm), 3-4 at 1500 rpm, 4-5 at 1625 rpm and 5-6 at 1750 rpm. Moderate throttle is best.

5.0 M6 3.55.

I'd suggest you guys hand-calculate your mileage. Last tank was showing 24.9 on the DIC, but really was 26.7 (10.0 gallons 267.7 miles). I have 3.31's. I have had screwing around tanks that were 17-18, but mostly in combined driving get around 21 with about 25.5-26 on average on the highway only.

I always did the math. The computer always showed roughly 1-1.5 MPG less than was actually achieved. While the majority of mine was highway cruising, for what it's worth: The little bit of actual shifting I had to do, I always did so under 3000 RPM, with very light throttle input.

1001 mile trip to mustang week and back. Included "all" types of driving.

Three tanks of 93 -- 24.9 mpg -with calculator- (auto trans.)

I've got the 3.73's. First tank I only got 11 mpg, having way too much fun (nothing crazy though). My second and third tanks of gas got me 15 mpg each. I haven't reached the end of the 1k break-in period yet; I've been trying to vary my speed and rpm range as much as possible.

Shifting that early takes all the fun out of my driving! It's awesome to see the numbers you guys are getting though. It's amazing how efficient this engine is when you drive it with that kind of intent.

Break-in time is the most fun ever. You get to act like a 16 year old. Except for, hopefully, the crashing it part.

....that's all i have to say about this advice.

3.73 manual I get 18 city and 23 highway light load. WOT runs get me 15mpg. Those are alot of fun. Its nice to see a 400+HP car get that kind of mpg.

I've got 3.73 gears with 6spdM and I'm averaging around 14mpg mostly city driving.I doubt my driving style will allow me to ever see more then about 18mpg.

I just fill her up with Chevron 91 and drive the heck out of her

oh ya I've got just over 3K miles on the clock

Lets see.

3.73 M6 1960-odo

Driving around town city/hwy 20/80 I usually get around 21mpg. City speeds are 45-55 in 5th-6th, hwy speeds 75-80 in 6th. Now, I usually take off from an incline in 1st, but on flats in 2nd, not sure if that does damage to the trans, but im doing it, lol. I usually go 2-4-6 in the city, 1-4 jerks on me unless I go up to like 4k. Did a 3hr drive at 75mph in 6th @ 2100 @21.6mpg, and if I slowed
to 60mph in 6th @ 1990-2000 I got 24.5mpg, ambient temps about 115'F 93% humidity.

Getting on it on the back roads is was fun, but then I get 14mpg.

Those shift point mentioned earlier, I need to try those. I usually shift about 2k-2.5k. I cant cruise below 2k in 1st in traffic because it starts to jump, so i usually cruise in 2nd about 1900. I HATE traffic. HAAAATTEEE it. I work nights, so I usually miss 99% of it, but on my days off... well.
