5.0 SCJ Engine (2013)

I've seen this engine pop up a few times here and there. Are any details known about this one as far as build spec differences between std 5.0 or Boss 302? I see a different intake manifold and TB on it also, and CAI of course. The intake looks noteworthy, almost like a variant of the Boss intake, and can't find any details anywhere yet that talks about it or identifies it. Not in FRPP catalog. All in good time I suppose, but wonder if anyone has sniffed a trail on it yet.

Ford should bring back the Mach 1 boss 429 with an all aluminum semi hemi 429 big block... Make it an exclusive special order and only take 200 orders per year. Minimum hp should be 575 at the crank with 550 ft lbs of torque... a real ground pounder...

Seems to be a waste of development time and dollars considering the GT500 is already a hair off of those figures bone stock, and will be exceeding those figures for 2013.

I have been trying to find out the same thing since I saw a picture of it being tested at Milan. The intake looks like a cross between the Boss and the 4.6 racing intake.t also uses a dual throttle body and similar 2010 CAI. I know there isn't any part number for this engine as a complete unit. I'm wondering how they got NHRA to buy off on the Intake,Throttle body and CAI. I tried to contact Jesse Kerhaw but he is out of the office till week after next.

Well, good! We found a path to go down. Maybe Mr. Kerhaw knows a few details...

Here is the reply I got from Jesse today:

"Terry,

We're working on what volume we will produce the naturally aspirated intake and air inlet. We're working those details out. It will be available per NHRA rules but depending on how we tool it that price could be low with a high volume of sales or high with a small volume of sales. We need to work the numbers still.

Our cams are proprietary designs and are specifically make to work with the variable cam timing. The Comp Cams ones I believe are designed with the expectation that the cams are locked out and the EFI is standalone.

The C4 is from Joel's directly.

What are you working on putting together?

-Jesse"

That's interesting and sounds like there may be 2 different cam configurations? One variable, one that is not? I'm guessing this engine may make into the crate engine lineup at some point too. Has he ever mentioned any target power levels for this variant? Thanks for looking into a bit!

Jesse has never spoken about out put levels and I'm sure they would be conservative in order to keep it in D/SA As far as the cams go I know Comp cams is working on cams for this combo. One set is for the cam phasing to be locked and used with a stand alone PCM made by Big stuff 3 which would require the use of a throttle cable instead of DBW. If you look at the dual throttle bodies availible from FRPP you will notice several of them are for cable operstion. I'm sure that's why they went with the dual TB as they already have the parts in place to make it work. Woild also bet the 2010 CAI will work also.

The other set of Cams are to be used with the stock PCM(except a tune)
and use the cam tuning. I believe the intake manifold is a a revised version of the current intake FRPP sells for the 4.6 motor. I just hope they go for quanity vs quality as far as production numbers go. Cheaper for us as racers to purchase.

Right now the Aluminator 5.0 N/A version of the motor is very close to what you want. Already comes with the good pistons, rods and heads along with an unknown cam grind. The intake,TB and CAI are the only things you ould need to change.

I will be retiring in about 3 years and my goal is to convert a factory 2013 into a CJ car so when I retire I can race it in D/SA. That way I will have 3 years to experiment with parts while enjoying the car as a DD. Already have quite a few of the CJ suspension parts purchased.

Since it seems you and I are the only ones interested in this I will just PM you with any updates I get.

I don't mind keeping it in here. I missed this other Aluminator they slipped in, and no power rating stated for it...only saw the low compression one for awhile. Notice no one steps over the 11.0:1 either for a higher compr piston. I know DI is coming on this engine in the not too distant future, wonder if an in expensive variable tune intake may as well...or even a dual plenum intake to go with it. Anyways, it would be nice to know that maybe this new 5.0 SCJ engine may be pushing over into the +500 hp territory, but something tells me Ford won't do it. I suspect Ford knows where they can get with this engine plateform and probably have gone there and maybe matching some exotic mfg's power levels too. Question is How did they get there NA and how do we get there from here.

They got ther with a lot of R&D and a boat load of money. We get there with just a boat load money.

Naw, I bet Ford would sell every one they built in spite of what would probably be really stupid ADM. An all aluminum version of the 6.2 punched out to 7.0 would do nicely. Ford might be able to squeeze over 600hp out of it provided they could get it to rev (although that might entail a switch to a 4v head for longevity's sake).
