351 in a Mustang

I'm wondering how many cubic inches the new 5.0 could have if it was bored and stroked. Also why didn't ford develop this engine into a 351 from the start? I know that there is history for the 5.0 but still a 351 would have been cool and tainking into consideration Ford got 412 HP out of the 5.0 how many HP do you think the 351 would have?

Because they had to use the machine tools already available at their engine plants, which limited the maximum bore size because the tools had a maximum capability of 100mm bore spacing. Implementing new machining equipment would have been extremely cost prohibitive.

SMS has a 351X in development. It's assumed it's a 351ci version of the 5.0L.

I think more likely a stroked and bored version of the 331 or 5.4L engine. SHM has a 6.0L version of a 5.4 as a crate engine.

I've been asking myself this question as well. If you figure about 82.4 hp/ltr for the 5.0, a 5.7 (351) would be around the 470 ballpark, with other things considered as well. Pretty interesting prospect if you ask me!

It's all good, that's what you got friends for!

Besides that, I'm with you, I would LOVE to see a 351 in this Stang!

Yeah, the part that brings me back to reality though is the manufacturing part - if someone did make this it would be quite costly. But it sure would be a beast.
