2014 5.0 Engine Dress-up
Hey everyone,
I had given it a lot of thought to purchasing an engine dress-up kit for my GB 2014. I thought about the coil covers, and the painted intake manifold from Roush.
I decided to save myself some money, and paint them myself.
It was a suprinsgly easy task and i did the job start to finish in about 2 hours.
Everyone has stressed about 'prep' prior to painting making a big difference, and this was no exception.
since it is winter here in western Canada, I made sure the paint cans were left inside overnight. I then soaked the cans for about 5 minutes in a tub of lukewarm water to heat them up just a little prior to shaking.
I also had just previously finished a 10 km drive in my car, so this ensure the engine was warm enough for the paint to adhere.
I started by removing my strut tower brace via the 2-10mm bolts per side for a total of 4.
I then removed the plenum cover, which was about 2 snaps per-side and was very easy. Just a light tug upward.
I then removed the coil covers by grabbing the blue plastic tab on the plug going in, and then the cover could gently be tugged upward and removed. Don't forget to turn the Oil reservoir 1/4 turn to remove the coil cover on the left side.
I cleaned the parts using shop towels sprayed with wax and grease remover, scuffed the plastic pieces with 600, then 1000 grit sandpaper, then another quick wipe with them dampened towel to remove the residue.
Then, using Duplicolor 'Ford Blue', I painted the center of the strust tower brace,
then I taped over the logo after about 2-3 coats of blue (and 20 minutes drying time with a little added heat)
I then used Duplicolor black and painted it in black.
I also painted the fuse box cover blue, the coil covers blue, the intake manifold blue, and lastly I did my radiator cover blue. Coated them all with clear, about 3-4 coats, and put it all back on.
Pics to follow, just need to resize them from my Iphone. It looks SO much better. I don't understand why the radiator covers weren't color matched to begin with.
Hopefully I can upload the pics soon. Have a good night everyone, and thanks again.

I just used clear coat on top of it all.
I didn't have the time or the patience to remove the radiator cover or intake.
Personally, I think it came out just as fine, as if I had removed it. But to each their own.
