My 2010 Sterling Grey GT Coupe
8 Attachment(s)
I got my '10 on the 11th day of the 12th month (how's that for wacky numerology) by trading in my 2007 Tungsten grey GT coupe. The new car is a GT Premium with charcoal black interior, 3:55 rear gear, 19" nickel wheels, and security package.
I wish I could have afforded to keep both, however, as much as there are some things I miss about the '07, the new '10 is MORE than making up for them. A couple of observations, which I suspect have been shared here by others - 1) the interior NVH is MUCH improved as compared to my previous '07 2) either my ears are fooling me or the induction sound tube does enhance the engine sounds into the cabin 3) the revised suspension for '10 does enhance the "feel" in around-town spirited driving (I'll be interested to see it on an autocross course) 4) the interior fit and finish and material quality modernize the experience while giving hints of the heritage 5) the lines of the hip look awesome in the side view mirrors I haven't taken many photos since I've been driving it the past 2 days A LOT...more to come later. |
Congrats! Looks Great!
|
I'm jealous, congrats! |
Looks great!

A few more taken with overcast lighting (grey day here in Ohio)...
|
I think the 10 looks best in this color and black. Put some GT500 wheels and rear spoiler with a chin spoiler and it will look perfect.
|
Great color choice :nice:
So, when does the modding start :poke: |
Oh, even more wacky numerology - "In '09, I picked up my '10 on the 11th day of the 12th month!"
|
That looks great Tony. Great choice! I have a 2003 Dark Shadow Grey vert, and I parked it next to a 2010 Sterling Grey vert on Friday and spent a few minutes comparing. I really like the color of the 2010, and I could not make out much, if any, difference at all in the two colors. Both cars were a bit dirty though, so it was tough to tell.
Is the paint code the same for the two colors? |

OP - it wouldn't, by chance, be the 7th car you have owned, would it? :D |
Holy crap, Rampant - it is the SEVENTH Mustang I have purchased. Oh my God!!
1) 1994 GT 2) 1996 Cobra 3) 2000 GT 4) 2003 Mach 1 5) 2007 GT 6) 2001 Bullitt 7) 2010 GT |

Prior to the first Mustang, I had SIX (6) other cars -
1) '87 Camaro IROC-Z 2) '90 Mitsubishi Eclipse Non-turbo 3) '90 Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo 4) '09 Nissan 300ZX 5) '95 Dodge Ram pickup 6) '95 Dodge Stratus sedan Yikes - this is hilarious! |

Did you, by chance, visit 4 dealerships? Or talk to 3 sales people? :D BTW, the '01 Bullitt cam after the '07 GT? Wasn't that taking a step backward? :stirpot: |

Is the paint code the same for the two colors? UJ = sterling grey I think DSG is a touch darker, at least as seen by my eyes. |

It was not, as I have it as part of the collection. It is the 2001 Bullitt that was built up by Scott Hoag of MRT (formerly of Ford and Team Mustang) into a supercharged, street legal but track drivable car. It is the "Bullitt Reload" Mustang that was profiled in 'Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords' a few years ago.

You bought 4 GT500 wheels for your 5 speed Mustang, after owning 6 previous cars making the Mustang the 7th car you owned, so you picked an 8 cylinder in '09, which was a '10 on the 11th day of the 12th month?!

All is well. Your car will look great with the stripes etc. We bought a Sterling 2012 Focus SE 5spd M, Sport package hatch. Love the color. It has the optional OEM black/polished rims. IMHO black looks really good with Sterling.
BTW: Love the ride/handling/steering on the Focus. If Ford does a similar job with the 2015 Mustang it will be something. The Focus ride is firm but somehow it absorbs even the worse road imperfections without transmitting the shock. Steering is very direct, cars super quiet, amazing to me considering the price. |

Love the Boss hood decal. I want to do the same to my car.
I appologize if you mentioned this before, I did a quick scan of this thread and didn't see anything, where did you get the hood decal from? |
Tony - how are those all-season Pirelli's working out for you?
Mike - I see a GT500 rear wing, nice! Details? Where/price/install? Mine is on order, 3dCarbon, pre-painted from CJPony. Can't wait to get put it on when it gets here! |

I appologize if you mentioned this before, I did a quick scan of this thread and didn't see anything, where did you get the hood decal from? The more I looked at it this evening, the less I liked it. And after the $95 I spent for their version, along with a $75 installation charge, I've written them back to see if they can redo this. I've seen a few threads out there for the one from Ford that costs over $300. I like the ProMotorStripes version, and I did like dealing with the company. They actually sent me another decal at no charge, even though technically it was not their responsibility for the failed attempt. Hopefully this helps. |

Thanks
I've been watching the Promotorsports one on ebay just haven't pulled the trigger. I did some searching and finally found the p/n for the factory hood stripe CR3Z 6320000-AC (the last two letters probably change depending on color). http://www.tousleyfordparts.com has it for 259.66 still pretty expensive but it is the factory part. Tousley Ford is not too far from where I live so I could go pick it up and save the shipping.:D |

I'm kind of leaning toward the factory one for the same reasons you state.
Maybe if I get a tax refund I'll spring for the factory one. |
I think the stripes look great, you have a sweet looking stang.

On a separate note, I will be getting a black Boss 302 lip spoiler and the rear decklid blackout put on the car soon. I waited awhile to see if I wanted to make the changes because I thought I might want to let the car go for a '13 Boss 302. Still having fun in the 2010 though! Lastly, here are the measurements for the stripe. ProMotorSports did a great job on ensuring the C-part actually lined up with the stock GT emblem. |

The rear black spoiler from a '12 Boss 302 and the Ford matte decklid blackout decal left my hands this morning. When the car was returned, I wound up with the spoiler on but the decal replaced with a custom gloss black decal. The body person had trouble with the Ford decal and crumpled it. They offered to replace it at cost with another decal but they did not have matte black color available. I took the gloss black one and will see how I like it. If it doesn't do it for me, I am going to get the area painted in a matte black color.
I had been holding off on making these changes, thinking I might let this car go for a Boss 302, but I am "committed" now :-) Interestingly, the look is reminiscent of the gloss black 2013 decklid. This casual photographer had a hard time in the lower light of the later evening capturing the essence of the sterling grey and black contrast. I need to try again tomorrow at an earlier time. Lastly, absolutely none of the decals are a 100% match of the Ford versions. This is possibly "good car karma", wherein the GT has a look inspired by but not a clone of the Boss 302. Thinking about an axleback exhaust now! |
Tony - I love watching all the progress of your GT. It looks great. Even the gloss black deck lid decal IMO looks great. Are all your other decals gloss black?

Mustang Racing Technologies (MRT) in Plymouth, MI, had a set of the same 19" Ford wheels painted in gloss black. I think the black decal accents go together color-wise with the wheels.

Plus, this car now has the MRT Interceptor axleback. I was looking for a little deeper tone than stock but the same "non-droniness" as the stock system. I have the stock H-pipe and cats in place. It's like turning up the volume about 5-10% but the throatiness is really was what I was after. These axleback mufflers provide it. Sound clips soon. |
